Albela is a 1951 Bollywood musical comedy film directed by and starring Bhagwan Dada and Geeta Bali.
A Hindi classic, it was the third highest grossing film at the Indian Box Office in 1951 and its soundtrack by C. Ramchandra was acclaimed.
The film was later dubbed in Tamil as Nalla Pillai (Tamil: நல்லப் பிள்ளை) in 1953.

Rajam (Rukmini) is a poor Brahmin girl. She remains unmarried because of the family's inability to offer dowry. A neighbouring family helps Rajam's family in times of need. Attempts to get her married even to a dumb boy fail miserably. Due to misunderstandings over money, a greedy moneylender kills Rajam's father and sets their home afire. Now Rajam rises in a new avatar as a social rebel and takes up the cudgels against dowry. She is now known as ‘Jayakodi' and prospective bridegrooms demanding dowry begin to vanish mysteriously making people wonder whatever happened to them! After solving many dowry problems, she marries a man after her heart (Natarajan) and the couple carry on their chosen battle against the menace.

In the end, the prince kills the villain with the help of the elephant (Thavamani's companion), finds his uncle and eventually marries the girl.

Gulu Lala lives a middle-classed lifestyle along with his parents in Chinchpokli, Bombay. Believing himself to be Hindustani and speaking Hindi, he is unable to secure employment with Parsi, Sindhi, Marwari, and Tamil businessmen, and spends his time walking a stray dog, Charlie, along Marine Drive. Circumstances have made Shaka a career criminal. When plague empties a town of its inhabitants, he takes the opportunity to burgle a house. He finds nothing except Shanti, a widowed daughter-in-law who has been left to die by her cruel relatives. Shaka nurses her back to health. When her relatives return they are not pleased to find her alive and even less pleased to discover that someone has tried to rob them. Shanti gets the blame and a beating. Shaka saves her from worse, at the hands of brother-in-law, and the pair flee. They set up home in Shaka's house, much to the displeasure of the respectable neighbours who are all too ready to think the worst. Shanti's relatives are dismayed when a lawyer arrives to announce that Shanti has been left a legacy. They hatch a plot to get her back. Meanwhile, Shaka's rehabilitation is proceeding - much to the chagrin of his former criminal associates. Fire and redemption for some, death and handcuffs for others is what fate has in store.
