Madan Puri (1915 – 13 January 1985) was an Indian actor of Hindi and Punjabi films. As a character actor mainly in negative roles (villain), he acted in about 430 films in a career spanning fifty years.

Biographie

His wife, Sheela Devi Puri (Wadhera) passed away a few years later. He is survived by three sons, all of whom are based in Mumbai. His sons are Pravesh Kumar Puri, a retired shipping magnate, Dr. Kamlesh K Puri (also known as Lt. Col. K.K. Puri, a retired army officer) a writer (currently writing a book about Madan Puri and the Indian Film Industry due to be published in early 2016), and Ramnesh Puri, a movie director. He has 5 grand children and 4 great grandchildren. His grandchildren are Kanchan Puri, Sonal Puri, Vikram Puri, Amrit Puri and Ishita Puri. His great grandchildren are Kunal Shetty, Kehan Shetty, Rayan Singh and Reyna Singh.

There is a village named Haridaspur where, Ashok Sharma (Rajesh Khanna) has been posted as an Inspector in charge. When he arrives in the remote village, he comes to the rescue of a blind man and a widow, and has a fist fight with Nishikant Shah and his men. The immediate next day, Shah finds out that the person with whom his men fought with was Ashok itself. Then to make friendship with Ashok, he goes to pay homage, but Ashok refuses. After string of incidences Ashok comes to know of all the bad activities carried out by Nishikant Shah and MLA Gopal Choudary (Om Shivpuri). Ashok then realises he has to help the people of the village from getting exploited from these rich men. Meanwhile he starts to live in the village as a paying guest at the house of a girl Asha(Shabana Sidique) and also gets fond of an orphan child from the village named Chotu. Ashok then learns that Chotu's father was a loyal farmer who was duped and was killed by Nishikant's men. He even promises Chotu of bringing the culprits to book. Somehow then Shah and his friend Choudhry manage to put Ashok in trouble by fixing a blame on him of killing a man in his custody. Due to this he then faces a situation where he could lose his job and his good reputation too.

Savitri's (Nutan) twin baby sons are snatched by notorious criminal Gama Mateen (Danny Denzongpa) who demands a ransom in exchange for returning the sons to Savitri. Inspector Bhargav (Arun Govil) comes to the aid of Savitri, but is himself killed in the process while trying to save Savitri's twin sons who remain in Gama Mateen's clutches and he goes on the run with them. Babu is a young man who works as a rickshaw puller and he has fallen in love with Kammo.His only true friend is Shambu Nath.One day he helps Shankerlal and his family and in return Shankerlal invites him to his house.Instantly the whole family including Shankerlal's wife and Pinky both begin to shower love on Babu. Babu having led a tough childhood feels very ecstatic and feels grateful to Shankerlal on having provided him food,clothes and more importantly respect given to him. Meanwhile a goon in the village rapes Kammo and Babu kills him and thereby lands in jail. After his release he finds Pinky begging in the streets and then he gets shocked as to how a rich girl has been forced to beg. Then he realises that now Pinky's mother is a widow. His sole aim now becomes to help this widow and her child. He gives up his personal life, drives a hand-drawn rickshaw, saves some money, so that he can buy provisions for them, as well as send the child, Pinky, to a decent school. Pinky then grows up and later starts disliking Babu.The rest of the story is how Pinky realises her folly later on, how Pinky's mother feels indebted to Babu for having helped them in return for one nights shower of affection on Babu by Shankerlal.
