Movie starts in train where Pyarelal and Tina meet. Both of them get down to have some food but miss their train but some how reach Rai Saheb's haveli. Tina's uncle's haveli is shown to be haunted. Initially Rai Saheb and his wife were considered one of the rich people of the village; they had a priceless diamond. That diamond attracted Jagjit and Prem Singh. By knowing this plan, Rai Saheb transfers his all secrets to his nephew Tina who used to study in London. But somehow Jagjit could not get control, so he killed Rai Saheb. Mrs. Rai went to shock. Jagjit found out a girl same in looks with Mrs Chachi so he becomes Mr. Rai & that similar girl Mrs. Rai. Shakti kapoor tries to harass Tina by showing various freaky things, ghosts, but all his plans could not succeed because of Pyarelal. Tina falls in love with Pyarelal. Both start caring and loving each other. They came to know about Jagjit & Prem Singh's plan. They also find there is real Mrs. Rai and help her in reviving her memory. They plan down things to first create a fight between Jagjit & Prem, and later call the police.

Chandrashekhar (Shammi Kapoor), or Shekhar as he is called now, belongs to an aristocratic family, who believe laughter is a sign of belonging to the lower class, and as a result laughter is not encouraged in the household, run by Shekhar's domineering mother (Lalita Pawar). In this household the only one who dares to laugh and enjoy life is Shekhar's sister Mala (Shashikala), who also dares to love Jeevan (Anoop Kumar). Things change when their mother finds out about Mala's indiscretions, and asks Shekhar to take her away from their home, to distant and scenic Kashmir, for a while. She instructs Shekhar to get married to a girl from a princely family. When Shekhar and Mala go to Kashmir, they meet with beautiful Rajkumari (Saira Banu). And after being stranded with her for a few nights during a snowstorm, he realizes what he has been missing, and becomes a care-free man in love. This change is welcomed by Mala, but not by their mother. To make matters worse, Rajkumari does not belong to a princely family, and Shekhar knows that his mother will never approve of his marrying her.

Ashok comes from a wealthy family, which is run by his dad, and elder brother, Alok. Ashok himself is a slacker, and is only interested in slacking, and playing practical jokes, and no doubt his favorite day is fool's day, 1 April, when he outdoes himself. His jokes befriend him with Madhu, and both fall in love. Sunil Kumar (Dev Anand) is a star cricket player in his city of Jhansi and lives with his brother's family. Sunil's sister in Law, Uma and her little son have deep affection for him and keep up that Sunil is the reason for their happy family. Soon, Sunil leaves for Bombay to attend a job interview and there he rents a room to stay.
