Rajesh Khanna (29 décembre 1942 - 18 juillet 2012), né Jatin Arora, est un acteur, producteur de film et homme politique indien. Considéré comme la "première" superstar de Bollywood, il est connu pour avoir tourné dans 163 films, dont 150 en hindi. Entre 1992 et 1996, il fut membre de la chambre parlementaire de la Lokh Sabha à New Delhi.

Biographie

Il naît le 29 décembre 1942 à Burewala, au Pakistan, dans la province du Penjab, sous le nom de Jatin Arora. Il sera ensuite rebaptisé Jatin Khanna.

Attiré dès son plus jeune âge par la comédie, il fait ses débuts dans Aakhri Khat (La dernière lettre) en 1966. Il se révèle au grand public trois ans après avec l’énorme succès du film Aaradhna (Dévotion), en 1969. Il excelle dans les rôles d'"Indian Lover", personnages romantiques et vulnérables, et connaît de nouveaux succès dans les années 1970 dans des films romantico-dramatiques comme Kati Patang (Le Cerf-volant brisé), Anand (Paix) et Amar Prem (Amour éternel).

Au cours des années 1960 à 1970, il est l'homme le plus adulé à Bollywood. Surnommé "Kaka" (oncle en hindi) par ses fans, il collectionne les lettres d'admiratrices. Fascination et fanatisme pousseront certaines à lui écrire de leur sang et à couvrir sa voiture de baisers marqués au rouge à lèvres. Selon les mots de Raud Ahmed, journaliste spécialisé : « Rajesh Khanna fut le premier à Bollywood à être nommé ' superstar' […] Il était très bon acteur, et il avait en plus un charme terrible […]. Ses scènes dramatiques faisaient donc fureur auprès des femmes ».

Il est le seul acteur indien à avoir connu quinze succès consécutifs, de 1969 à 1971.

Il se marie avec l'actrice Dimple Kapadia en 1973. Alors âgée de 16 ans, celle-ci commençait une courte carrière cinématographique dans le film Bobby de Raj Kapoor. Le couple se sépare en 1984, après la naissance de deux filles, Twinkle et Rinke. Malgré leur séparation, Dimple et Rajesh ne divorceront jamais.

Dans les années 1990, Rajesh Khanna décline de plus en plus d'offres de films et se tourne vers la politique. Il est membre du parlement indien de 1992 à 1996, mais finit dans ses dernières années par éviter les apparitions publiques.

Il meurt le 18 juillet 2012 à Bombay des suites d'une longue maladie.

Rohan Khanna (Akshaye Khanna) is a jobless graduate living with his grandfather (Alok Nath) and his mother (Moushumi Chatterjee). Rohan has been tirelessly looking for a decent job without success. Raj Anand is director of many popular hit movies of Hindi Cinema and lives in India with his wife Padmini and his 22-year-old son Varun. Reading the rumors an affair between Raj Anand and Sakhi disturbs Varun, but Padmini has strong faith in her husband and is very confident that her husband does not have any affair with his find and thus their relation remains strong as ever. Padmini gives roses to her husband daily as a ritual whenever Raj leaves for shooting location from home. So the couple's relation never gets spoiled. But after getting to know that his son Varun wants to marry Sakhi, Raj Anand stops the shooting of the film Nagar Vadhu. Its then that Varun comes to believe that his father has been having an illicit relationship with Sakhi for years now and this results in misunderstandings between the father-son duo.Rest of the story is about what happens to Raj and Varun's relation and whether Sakhi and Varun ever get together and how Raj Anand's career and life and the making of the debut film gets affected due to all these incidents.

Chamanlal, Aatmaram were partners with Jamuna Das and Babubhai but Atmaram discovers that the core business is selling women abroad for prostitution, he breaks away from this partnership and tells the wife of Chamanlal. Chamanlal's wife confronts him but Chamanlal is steadfast and decides not to leave the business. In an extreme reaction his wife leaves the house along-with her son and clothes to start a living on her own. Chamanlal keeps thinking about this matter and decides to meet his other two partners to convey he feels this business is unethical and that he cares for his family's sentiments more and asks for his final share before parting ways. But because of a conspiracy masterminded by his wicked business partners (Kiran Kumar and Sadashiv Amrapurkar), Chamanlal presumes he killed Babubhai(Kiran Kumar) and the prime witness to this supposedly murder - Vakil Jamuna Das(Sadashiv Amarpurkar), asks Chamanlal to flee but at the same time informs the police to search for him. Chamanlal searches for his wife and son but cannot locate them and so informs Atmaram that now he has reformed and that he needs to search for his son and wife who have left him.He also tells Atmaram that he is innocent and wants to escape. Meanwhile after reading in newspapers about police searching for Chamanlal and that Chamanalal has died in an accident, his wife considers herself a widower and brings up her only child by tailoring.

Widower Jeevanlal lives with his 5-year-old daughter in small house. One day he meets with an accident and is unable to return home as he is admitted in hospital. Meanwhile due to heavy rains, an ill Guddu starts searching for her dad at the night time and gets giddy due to hunger and falls on the road. Jeevanlal returns home and sees she has fever. Then Jeevanlal gets arrested for assaulting a Pharmacist as he is unable to afford medicines suggested by doctor to treat his ill daughter, Guddu. Subsequently Jeevanlal gets jailed, his repeated and vain attempts to escape from prison to meet his daughter only end up increasing his sentence, leaving Guddu to fend on her own. 8 years pass by. Guddu went to a school as while she was searching for her dad, a Marathi woman saw her and started to allow Guddu grow up in her house. Meanwhile during transfer from one jail to another, some prisoners die due to an accident, where Qaidi No. 8 Jeevanlal is presumed to be dead. Meanwhile Jeevanlal manages to escape successfully from that accident but due to his hunger for food he goes into a bunglow and when he is about to pick food, the owner of the bunglow comes to the room but Jeevanlal shows knife at him but the owner of the bunglow just by glancing at Jeevanlal, says this man is not a thief for sure and introduces himself as Judge Dindayal. Jeevalal says do not send me to prison back as I have escaped only to meet my daughter and says he will kill Dindayal if he raises an alarm. Owner Dindayal asks his servant Bhola to give Jeevanlal food properly and says "Let him eat and sleep in our house in the same room where my deceased son used to sleep". The same night again Jeevanlal tries to run and steals a golden idol from the house. Bhola informs his owner that the guy who came last night has stolen the golden idol of God and ran away from the room. But the police of that city catch him while trying to sell that idol to a merchant and police inform the owner that the thief confessed that idol was stolen from his house only. Then the owner of Bunglow and the idol - Judge Dindayal - says this person is my friends's son named J.V. and has not stolen the idol but in fact the owner of idol. Dindayal, though aware that escaped convict is at his home, decides to let Jeevanlal not get caught in hands of police. Dindayal asks him why he is angry at god and then Jeevanlal narrates his sad story which happened in recent days. Dindayal says since his only son has already died and since he feels he can trust Jeevanlal, though he is a judge he is ready to give Jeevanlal a new lease of life, with the new name J.V as he felt that fate was actually playing the game in life of both himself and Jeevanlal as he though old is forced to live in the world whereas his young son died a premature death and on the other hand Jeevanlal was forced by fate to commit a crime which was ultimately to take care of his daughter but now even that daughter has got separated from him. Dindayal lets Jeevanlal stay in his house and take care of his assets and advices him not to stop praying to God and gives him a bag full of cash for Jeevanalal to start a new life.
