Anatharu (Kannada: ಅನಾಥರು, English: Orphans) is a 2007 Indian Kannada drama film directed by Sadhu Kokila and is a remake of the 2003 Tamil film Pithamagan. It stars Upendra, Darshan, Radhika and Sanghavi. The supporting cast features Ramaraju, M. P. Shankar and Honnavalli Krishna.
Upon theatrical release, the film met with favourable reviews, with Upendra's portrayal of Rudra, an orphaned gravedigger receiving widespread acclaim.
Synopsis
Rudra (Upendra) is an orphan. He grows up in the graveyard. He is very innocent by nature but has a lot of strength like a demon. One day he goes into the village. But the people shun him and ask him to return to the graveyard. But a village girl Parvathi (Sanghavi) befriend him and helps him out. The village chief ( Ramaraju) and a drug peddler use Rudra to peddle drugs. Rudra is caught in a drug peddling case and is put into prison. At this time Sathya (Darshan) joins him in jail after being framed in a false case. Sathya and Rudra become very close friends and share a special bond with each other. Sathya helps Rudra with a lot of things but is unfortunately murdered by the village chief and the drug peddler and they implicate Rudra in the murder case. This enrages Rudra and he takes on the evil men and avenges Sathya's death. After that he goes back to his home - the graveyard.
Surya (Darshan) and Vidya (Reema Vohra) are orphan siblings who are mistreated by the local goons. They are left to earn their living by begging on the streets. Vidya comes across an orphanage organizer and he takes her as an intern much to the respite of Surya who decides to stay away from her for her benefit. After 15 years, the now adult Surya, a cop, is on a mission to lookout for Vijayendra Varma and his team, who were the killers of his guardian (Avinash). How he succeeds in finding them out and unites with his sister forms the rest of the story.
