Anuradha is a 1940 Bollywood film directed by Mohan Sinha. It stars Trilok Kapoor, Jeevan, Maya Bannerji, Vatsala Kumtekar, Anant Marathe and Agha. The film was produced by Circo Productions and had Badri Prasad as its music director.

The film starts with Madan Gopal (Dev Anand) being thrown out of his house for not paying the rent. He goes to visit his friend, who has been helping him collect his mail, and finds a letter from his uncle, Manoharlal. Manoharlal writes that he is willing eleven lakh rupees (nine lakhs of cash and two lakhs worth of property), to Madan. It was originally willed to his sister-in-law's son, Kuldeep (Krishan Dhawan). After seeing Kuldeep's bad behaviour, though, Manoharlal decides to give the money to Madan.

The film is set in post-independence India, where industrialization is slowly creeping in. The focus is on tongawallahs who earn their living transporting people on tongas (horse carts). Chiranjeev (Raj Kapoor) lives a wealthy lifestyle along with his father, Kashiram (Raj Mehra), and three siblings: two sisters, one of whom is dumb, and a younger brother. While on a trip, his friend, Mohan (Om Prakash), falls ill due to alcohol, and gets treated at an Ashram. This is where Chiranjeev meets with an employee, Sharada (Meena Kumari), who lives a poor lifestyle with her father, Ram Sharan. Chiranjeev and Sharada fall in love with each other, and he promises to get his father's permission and return to get married to her. On his way home he has an accident, and though he does survive after being treated by tribal people, he returns to the Ashram several days later and is informed that Sharada is now married to a wealthy and much older man. Heart-broken and devastated, Chiranjeev returns home only to get another shock: the male Sharada has married is none other than his very own father. Depressed and deeply frustrated, he takes to alcohol in a big way. Sharada talks him out of this, he repents and on her insistence, marries Chanchal (Shyama), who come from a reputed family background. Things then get complicated when Chanchal finds that her husband and his stepmother had been in love before and may not have got over their feelings for each other.

After the passing of Maharaj Dhiraj Rana Chandrabhan of Kailash Nagar, the Senapati, Veer Singh, crowns Rajkumar Dhivendra Pratap Bahadur Chandrabhan as the next King. Veer's wife, who has brought up Dhivendra like her own son, Surinder, would like Dhivendra to get married to Rajkumari Chandramukhi of Rajgarh. The Maharaja of Rajgarh is pleased to hear of this, and asks his daughter to set forth to Kailash Nagar. On the way there, she is abducted by her very own Senapati and held captive until she gives her consent to marry him. Dhivendra rescues her, both fall in love, but are captured by Senapati's men. Dhivendra is gravelly injured but manages to escape and is looked after Rajgarh's Raj Nartaki, Rajlaxmi, who also falls in love with him. After Dhivendra recuperates, he finds out that Chandramukhi is being against her will at Senapati's castle, he sets forth to set her free, but is captured in the process. Held in chains, he is blinded by a vengeful Rajlaxmi, and Chandramukhi is given an ultimatum - either wed Senapati or witness the death of Dhivendra.
