The film features Nassar and Revathi in lead roles. The film, produced by Vaidyanathan, had musical score by Ilaiyaraaja and was released on 9 June 1995 to critical acclaim.
Synopsis
Kuppusamy (Nassar), an innocent man, dreams to perform in Pandi's troupe. Pandi (Delhi Ganesh) is a respected male troupe leader, and the troupe performs in Hindu festivals. Baasi (Bala Singh) is expelled from the troupe for his bad behaviour. Finally, Pandi accepts Kuppusamy into his troupe. Ponnamma (Revathi), Pandi's daughter, a blind girl, falls in love with Kuppusamy. For some time, the festivals organizers prefer female dancers. Pandi dies during a stage performance and the troupe splits up. Kuppusamy leaves the village with Ponnamma to become a cinema actor. There, they meet Baasi and he accommodates them. Baasi rapes Ponnamma and kills her. Kuppusamy is sent to a mental hospital but he manages to escape. Kuppusamy is determined to take revenge.Acteurs

The film centres on Shashanka, a dacoit who starts off as a Robin Hood type before lapsing into mass, and merciless, killings. He then falls in love with the daughter of one of his captives, only to be spurned. The dejected dacoit commits suicide. Years later, the girl is reborn in Dubai, grows up, falls in love and is on the verge of getting married when she makes a visit to India, to the family's ancestral home. Disturbing thoughts, hallucinations and meetings with a bearded man who is, though she doesn't know it just yet, Shashanka reborn, mark the visit. The rest of the story traces Shashanka's intentions of trying to convince the girl of their previous life characters.

Sethu (Kamal Haasan) and Ranjani (Rekha) arrive at a cliff where they plan to commit suicide due to the pressure put up by Ranjani's parents against their marriage. Sethu who is the son of an ordinary drunkard cook (Delhi Ganesh) and is also a dancer is not accepted as groom for Ranjani by her parents. The parents threaten Ranjani that either they would kill Sethu or commit suicide. While jumping from the cliff Sethu accidentally gets trapped in a tree and escapes but Ranjani dies. Despite the attempts made by Ranjani's father to jail Sethu by framing a fault case that Sethu killed Ranjani, no strong evidence was there to prove it. He is jailed for the offence of attempted suicide for one year.

Panneer Selvam (Vijayakanth), an honest cop, gathers enough evidence against a local goon Arumai Nayagam a.k.a. Annachi (Thilakan). Annachi is sent to prison. Annachi avenges his arrest by killing Panneer Selvam's wife (Revathi). Since then, ACP Panneer Selvam quits the Police force and takes care of his children renting an apartment owned by V.K Ramaswamy. Bhanupriya (VK Ramaswamy's grand daughter) gets introduced to Panner Selvam's children and starts mingling with them eventually falling in love with Panneer Selvam. Meanwhile, Arumai Nayagam is released from the prison and realizes that he doesn't carry the same respect as he used to before going to jail. His anger against Panneer Selvam doesn't cease. Arumai Nayagam challenges Panneer Selvam to join the police again and try to fight him again. Panneer Selvam initially rejects the offer. Arumai Nayagam tries to provoke Panneer Selvam by attacking his home and son. Out of frustration over son's attack, Panneer Selvam joins the Police again and fights Arumai Nayagam again. ACP Panner Selvam's fight against Arumai Nayagam forms the rest of the plot.
