Basti (Hindi: बस्ती, Urdu: بستی) is a 2003 Indian crime film. The film stars Samir Soni and Faisal Khan in lead roles, with Sheeba in a special guest appearance, Shama Sikander, Govind Namdeo, Sadashiv Amrapurkar and Kulbhushan Kharbanda in supporting roles.

Synopsis

The film starts with a voice (Kader Khan) narrating a small town of Mumbai. A gangster named Kanta (Sadashiv Amrapurkar) wants to destroy the town and is in a battle with Karanjia (Kulbhushan Kharbanda), who wants to replace the town with a shopping mall. Ramesh "Rama" Kulkarni (Samir Soni) returns to his town after several years and is greeted by all of his friends, neighbors and youngest sister, Pinky (Mamta Mishra). It's only Rama's father, Vinayak Kulkarni (Govind Namdeo), a school teacher, who does not greet him and is angered with Rama.

Subhash Nagare (Amitabh Bachchan) est le chef d’un petit village du Maharashtra. Il est le Sarkar : il est extrêmement respecté et craint par la population locale. Quant à Anita Rajan (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), c'est une femme d’affaires sans scrupules dont le seul but est de gagner de l’argent pour son entreprise. À la tête de Sheppard Power, multinationale spécialisée dans la production d'énergie, elle soutient le projet de la construction d'une centrale électrique en pleine zone rurale. Shankar prend rapidement conscience des avantages que la centrale pourrait apporter à la population. Seul inconvénient : le projet nécessite un déplacement d’une part importante de la population. Après avoir convaincu Sarkar qui était contre le projet, Shankar entreprend un voyage avec Anita jusque dans les villages du Maharashtra pour convaincre les habitants. Cependant, l’entreprise de Shankar se heurte à de multiples obstacles et devient progressivement un champ de mines politique. Le régime de Sarkar est affaibli et le nom de Shankar est effacé de l'horizon politique.

Mumbai is in the midst of a turf war between two gangs, collectively referred to as the Mumbai underworld when Satya (J.D Chakravarthy), a man without a past, comes to the city looking for employment. Mhatre, pleased with Satya's bravado, extends a hand of friendship and arranges for his release as well as accommodation. With Mhatre's help, Satya avenges himself by gunning down Jagga in the very same dance bar and joins Mhatre's gang.

Hasmukh Rai (Kader Khan) has a problem. As a matter of fact, two problems — his two sons: Munnu (Chunky Pandey) and Bunnu (Govinda Ahuja). The duo are notorious slackers, always up to no good, and involved in elaborate practical jokes. It comes to Hasmukh's attention that his sons have been lying to him about their college grades — in studies and sports — and have not been attending school for the last three years. As a result, they are kicked out of college and, ultimately, their home. Later, one of their practical jokes gets out of hand, and Bunnu disappears, presumed dead. At the same time, Munnu gets involved with a conspiracy of killing Bunnu. Meanwhile, from a small Indian village, Bunnu's identical cousin, Gauri Shankar, arrives in town. He is mistaken for Bunnu which leads to a hilarious misunderstandings and constant uproar.

Ab Tak Chhappan 2 opens to encounter specialist Sadhu Agashe (Nana Patekar) proclaiming what he did was right. The film then goes into flashback, where we are shown what happened a few months back. Away from Mumbai, with a few cases pending against him, Sadhu now leads a peaceful life in his village (Goa) with his son Aman, mourning the loss of his wife. He cooks, lives in a house by the river and listens to his son playing the piano. However, his retired phase comes to a halt, when ex-police commissioner (Mohan Agashe) convinces Sadhu to get back on the job on the home minister's (Vikram Gokhale) request to tackle Mumbai's escalating crime scene.
