The story begins with a family man who has wife and 4 children. He values the present moment and indulges in his children and wife. Satyamoorthy is a wealthy diamond business man and a widower living with his younger brother Raja (Rajinikanth) and two daughters Radha and Chitra. Satyamoorthy is a great devotee of saints and priests trusting all of them to be genuine whereas Raja is a happy go lucky guy just opposite to his brother who does not trust any of them. Satyamoorthy once invites a priest to his home to perform rituals to drive away all evil surrounding his house not knowing that the priest is a fake and member of a robber gang. Satyamoorthy takes him to his treasury room where he had stored his huge wealth and tells him the secret of unlocking his lockers. The fake priest pretends to give a sacred sheet and instructs to place it inside the locker which shall protect the stuffs. As Raja suspected, the priest sends the robbers at night to loot the wealth but Raja wakes up and fights with them and restores the looted property. Raja's repeated attempts to prove that the priest is fake goes vain as Satyamoorthy believes strongly that Raja protected the wealth only because of the divine power of the sacred sheet.

Ramesh (Rajinikanth) starts managing the office of an industrialist who strongly suspects his relatives to be looting him. Ramesh finds the culprit and keeps a tight leash on everything happening in the office, thereby earning the wrath of the industrialist's relatives. Ramesh and Sridevi (the industrialist's daughter) initially find themselves at loggerheads, but eventually fall in love with each other. An aspiring young wannabe actor Raja (Rajinikanth) from a village get into a fast city which is full of crooks and drug dealers. As he searching for a place in the dream factory, he falls for the daughter of the house owner (Jaiganesh). Charmed by his looks and character, the girl (Gowthami) also falls for him. One day he accidentally meet his childhood friend Bhaskar (Raghuvaran) who is a spoiled rich guy. He offers Raja an acting job, then takes him to his uncle's house. Raja is to be in charge of the administration of the household and take care of five children (Bhaskar's nieces and nephews) each of whom have issues (such as being lazy, not studying etc). Raja finds out that Bhaskar is cheating his uncle out of funds and using him to do the same. Bhaskar involves in drug business along with his associates (Azhagu, Kitty). Ravichandran who has blindness recovers from the problem and pretends to be blind in order to find out the truth of Bhaskar. After finding out the truth, Ravichandran throws Bhaskaran out of the home. In retaliation, Bhaskar takes away his uncle's car resulting in Ravichandran getting arrested for drugs. Raja along with children goes to Bhaskar's den catches him redhandedly.

The story revolves around five people. Kamal Haasan, a city bred is married to Sumithra, a village girl. On the other hand Vijayakumar, a village lad and Phataphat Jayalakshmi, a modern woman are married. Jayalakshmi hates living with her husband (Vijayakumar) and eyes Kamal Haasan. Meanwhile Sripriya, a young girl wants at least to have a child with Kamal Haasan, attracted by him even if he doesn't marry her. As the title suggests, the film ends with Kamal Haasan overcoming all these issues and ends living with Sumithra.

Ambika and Radha are Rajini's cousins. Rajini likes Ambika but she does not because she wanted a wealthy life but Radha loved Rajini. Rajini did not accept her because of her silly things and she is younger than Ambika. Then Ambika was forced to marry him and to give birth to a child (Meena). Then she ran away with her boss son. Later everyone was sad and ashamed. Ambika's father wanted Rajini to marry Radha so that the child (Meena) would have a mother. He agrees and marries her. They lead a happy life. During the climax, Ambika reforms and wants to see her child (Meena). They saw each other and became to come closer. In the end, Ambika dies and Rajini does the funeral.
