Ajouter à une liste de films5 June (German: Der 5. Juni) is a 1942 German war film directed by Fritz Kirchhoff and starring Carl Raddatz, Joachim Brennecke and Karl Ludwig Diehl. The film depicts the events of 1940 when German forces successfully invaded France. It was shot on location in France and Germany. Constant changes to the film, often at the request of the German military, led to large cost overruns. In November 1942 the film was banned by the Minister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda Joseph Goebbels for unspecified reasons. It has been speculated that Goebbels thought the film was not entertaining enough or wished to avoid offending the Vichy government of France.

Durant les Jeux olympiques d'été de 1936, la jeune Inge Wagner et l'officier d'aviation Herbert Koch se rencontrent. Pendant quelques jours, ils s'aiment et font des plans pour un avenir ensemble. Mais avant de pouvoir se marier, Herbert est appelé dans la Légion Condor pour aller en Espagne. La mission pour laquelle il participe est secrète, il ne doit rien dire et ne peut donc pas expliquer à Inge pourquoi il la quitte. Quand sa mission est terminée, après plusieurs mois, tandis qu'il se remet d'une blessure grave, il écrit à Inge. Mais elle a déménagé et il ne reçoit pas de réponse. Découragé, il ne la cherche pas.

Azerbaïdjan, 1919. Autour de la capitale Bakou se trouvent la deuxième plus grande réserve de pétrole dans le monde. La région est tendue à cause d'attentats. Au service d'une compagnie, l'officier allemand Hans Romberg cherche les renseignements pour les éviter. Romberg est certain que les Anglais sont derrière les attaques, car ils ont des intérêts économiques très tangibles. L'adversaire principal de Romberg est le capitaine Percy Forbes, qui rachète des puits. Personne ne sait encore qu'il agit à titre de mandataire pour le compte du gouvernement britannique. Il se montre très entreprenant auprès des propriétaires, mais aussi de Sylvia, la fille du magnat américain George Camps. Mais Romberg est aussi proche d'elle.

The short film (48 minutes) opens aboard a U-boat as it returns from a mission. It then follows the crew onshore the day before they ship off for their next mission—meeting their family and sweethearts, spending a last night at a club, and so forth. Then they ship off, soon sighting and boarding a Dutch merchant ship, which they inspect for contraband. The boarding of the ship is shown being done professionally and in a non-confrontational manner. While they are aboard the Dutch ship, a Royal Navy ship spots them and tries to torpedo them, but the U-boat ends up sinking it.

In 1912, the Austrian secret service identifies Marcella Galdi, an Italian noblewoman who is visiting Vienna, as an Italian spy. To avoid diplomatic confusions, she is kidnapped while dancing with the Austrian General Staff officer Michael von Hombergk at a ball at the famous hotel Sacher in Vienna, and sent back to Italy. Shortly afterwards, a secret plan of an Austrian fortress appears in Hombergks office desk, and as he himself is unable to explain this, the secret service urges him to commit suicide, but instead he manages to escape from Vienna.

Based on the autobiographical novella of the same title by Kilian Koll, (Walter Julius Bloem, Jr.), the film is set late in 1918, during the final stages of the First World War. A troop of German infantry are on their way from the Eastern to the Western Front and must change trains in Berlin. After marching through the centre of the city from one station to another, they must wait several hours for their connecting train. The major in command gives strict orders that no one must go into this city full of "deserters, revolutionaries, and defeatists", even though most of the men are from Berlin, but in response to the pleading of Colonel Hartmann (Fritz Kampers), who had saved his life in the trenches, young Lieutenant Prätorius (Rolf Moebius) grants passes on the men's solemn promise to return in time: "I have your word of hono[u]r that you will return and fulfill your duty in this critical hour of the fatherland. The unit is counting on you—and so is Germany." The film follows several of the men, in particular four of different ages and from different milieux. Infantryman Ullrich Hagen (Wilhelm König) is a composer; he visits his music teacher, who will shortly be performing one of his works and begs him to be true to his talent rather than throwing his life away in a futile cause. Colonel Hartmann, who is middle-aged, surprises his young wife, Anna, who has replaced him at his work driving a tram; she begs him to stay with her and their four children rather than returning to a war which is already lost. The third, a young man, after discovering his only relative has died, meets a girl and falls in love for the first time. The fourth, Infantryman Emil Sasse (René Deltgen) is a "leftist intellectual" who was cursing the notion of 'heroic death' and announcing his intention to desert in the opening scenes of the film; he finds his girlfriend Fritzi (Margot Erbst) printing anti-war leaflets. All four, however, resist the temptation to desert. Hagen responds that his works can speak for themselves; the young man considers his companions closer to him than his new love; Sasse finds he no longer likes revolutionaries: "We soldiers are dying for our country while you drink, hold meetings, and make love. ... I have nothing in common with you any more." He fights his way out of the meeting and arrives with a black eye and bruises. Hartmann loses track of time, but his family all pile into a friend's lorry and race the train to the next station; the lieutenant spots the speeding vehicle and all the men are back as they promised.
