This was the fifth in the MGM series of nine Dr. Kildare, from 1938-1942 with Lew Ayres as Dr. Kildare. This was the sixth of a total of ten Dr. Kildare pictures; the first of which starred Joel McCrea as Kildare.
Synopsis
Doctor James Kildare (Lew Ayres), just appointed resident assistant at the Byng State Hospital by his mentor Dr. Leonard Gillespie (Lionel Barrymore), is forced to return to his hometown when his general-practitioner father (Samuel S. Hinds) collapses from overwork.Acteurs

Dr. James Kildare gets competition for the heart of nurse Mary Lamont from wealthy brain surgeon Dr. Gregory Lane. Kildare has not proposed to Mary because of his poor financial situation. Kildare's mentor, Dr. Leonard Gillespie, arranges for him to be offered a prestigious, well-paid job at the Messenger Institute, but Kildare decides to continue working with his inspiring mentor, Dr. Leonard Gillespie.
