Hallelujah les collines (Hallelujah the Hills) est un film américain réalisé par Adolfas Mekas, sorti en 1963.

Synopsis

Quand Jack et Leo, qui depuis sept ans aiment tous les deux Vera, se décident à la demander en mariage, ils découvrent avec consternation, qu'elle a épousé « l'horrible Gédéon ». Pour se remettre de leur déception et tenter d'oublier Vera, ils s'en vont parcourir les forêts du Vermont couvertes de neige, faisant les fous et dormant sous la tente. Mais ils n'arrivent pas à oublier la femme qu'ils aiment, chacun la revoyant, en flashbacks, de façon très personnelle : Leo se souvient de ses visites annuelles à Vera chaque été, tandis que Jack se remémore les visites annuelles qu'il lui faisait chaque hiver. Tout à leurs souvenirs, ils enchainent les cuites, et les péripéties : feu de camp qui devient incendie, chasse à l'ours, découverte d'un arbre à femmes, le réalisateur rendant, au passage hommage à D. W. Griffith et à son film À travers l'orage... Leur rencontre avec deux détenus évadés va mettre un terme à leur périple.

"Two young men, Jack and Leo, are both courting the same girl. For seven long years they persist, but she finally gives herself to the 'horrible Gideon.' In a sense, just as this is the pretext for the film, so the courtships of Vera is a pretext for Jack and Leo to camp out together in the Vermont woods near her home, and to indulge themselves in the wildest of horseplay and high jinks. The film has a Giffithian flavor, a lyrical naivete, which is extremely touching. The movie centers on Carlton Garrett (Justin Timberlake), the adult son of baseball legend Kyle Garrett (Jeff Bridges) and a minor-league baseball player with the Corpus Christi, Texas Hooks. Danny Valdessecchi est un être intelligent, beau, et charmant, mais malheureusement aveugle. Après avoir été aveugle de naissance, il fait du bénévolat pour une procédure risquée expérimental qui peut lui rendre la vue, on va lui installer une puce dans le cortex visuel de son cerveau qui se connecte à une caméra qui lui donnerait seulement, au mieux, des images en noir et blanc. Pendant les essais, il rencontre une belle nourrice indienne, Leeza. Lorsque Danny se rend finalement compte qu'il est en train de sortir avec elle, Leeza lui dit qu'elle ne peut plus le voir parce qu'elle est déjà promise à quelqu'un, un mariage arrangé. Danny estime que Leeza ne veut pas poursuivre leur relation à cause de lui car il est aveugle, alors il déprime et cesse de faire les tests nécessaires pour son opération du cerveau.
