Houseful is a 2009 Bengali language film directed by Bappaditya Bandopadhyay. In this film, the star Prosenjit Chatterjee's character is a movie director who creates artistic films that flop and are not selected for awards. After several tries and exhausting his own funds, he is forced to do commercial Bengali films. In this film Sreelekha Mitra has a guest appearance.

Synopsis

Nikhil (Prosenjit Chatterjee) is in distress over his failures. His personal circumstances are in shambles and he's defaulted on most of his obligations. His assistant asks him to make a commercial film on the lines of a Tamil film to revive his career. He refuses and decides to make his own film by producing it himself. He convinces his father to mortgage their house. He receives a call from Subhash one day who provides him with finance, but in return he would have to accept the actress of the man’s choice. Nikhil agrees and they start shooting with Sujata, better known as Nandita (Rimjhim Gupta).

Kantatar (Barbed Wire) revolves around the journey of Sudha (Sreelekha Mitra),A socio-political-love drama, Kantatar centers on an illegal immigrant’s search for identity and her effort to survive sake and in search of an identity, moves from one man to another and from one religion to another. The sudden threat of cross border terrorism entirely changes the socio-political situation in a remote village close to the frontier, the army rolls into town, and the drastic changes take their toll on inter-personal relationships as they are marred by suspicion, competition and fear. Sudha takes refuge in a temporary weather camp just outside the village. She develops a physical relationship with Binod (Sudip Mukherjee), the weather balloonist, whose job it is to take note of the frequent change of wind direction. But soon Sudha's identity comes into question and she is seen as a suspect. Her dream of a secure shelter is once again threatened. This is a beautiful and engaging film, which luxuriates in the story and its location. The visual poetry and unfettered exploration of the ongoing conflict on the borders of India and Bangladesh come together with great impact and insight. There are brilliant touches of both satire and social comment, which go to show that Bappaditya Bandhopadhay has a lot to say about today's India. Sudha’s hard life consists of weaving herself in and out of different relationships with men and dabbling in various religions. The immediate threat of attack entirely changes the climate of her remote border village, and as the army rolls into town, inter-personal relationships are drastically affected. Suspicion, competition and fear start to grip the villagers. Sudha takes refuge in a temporary weather camp just outside the village. Binod, a meteorologist working in the village, becomes fascinated by Sudha, and they soon begin a physical relationship. But when Sudha's identity is called into question, she is seen as a terrorist suspect. Her dreams of security are once again threatened. Kantatar is visually engaging, luxuriating in the lush locales where it was filmed. Director Bappaditya Bandhopadhay relies on both satire and social comment to tell his story, all the while exploring the ongoing conflict on the borders of India and Bangladesh. Modern India is portrayed with great impact and insight.

Honest businessman Amar Chowdhury (Rajak) had a happy family with his wife, two sons, daughters-in-law and a daughter. He reared Sankar (Prasenjit), an orphan boy as his own son. Sankar looked after each and every need of this family. Amar Chowdhury won the post of president of the mill owners' association by defeating strong competitor Rudraprasad Sen (Dulal Lahiri) . In that helpless situation, Arun Chowdhury's sons insulted and deserted him. They also slandered Sankar. Amar Chowdhury drove Sankar out by showing false anger. Sankar achieved his goal of becoming an actor with the help of Kesto da (Sunil Mukherjee), a production manager. After the completion of Chowdhury Villa Shanti Devi (Anuradha Roy) died out of grief. Sankar became rich and artfully saved 'Chowdhury Villa' from Rudraprasad Sen.

The film starts with a proposal of remaking Satyajit Ray's famous Nayak by a debutant director and storywriter Shuvobrata (Indraneil Sengupta) to famous Bengali actor Arun Chatterjee (Prosenjit). Arun approves Shuvobrata's proposal and agrees to finance the project. Shuvobrata requests his live-in girlfriend Srinandita or Shrin (Nandana Sen) to act opposite Arun. In the meantime, Arun and Shrin become close friends and Arun tells her about various incident from his past in an emotionally triggered condition. The exchange is videotaped accidentally and Shuvobrata on discovering it leaks it to the press, without Srinandita's consent, as a publicity stunt for the film. Srinandita leaves Shuvobrata on learning of this indiscretion. Arun, furious about the leak, bars the film from being released. Arun later learns that Shrin had no role in the leak and apologizes to her. The movie ends with Shrin leaving a note and a phone number for Arun at a roadside dhaba where they had met earlier.
