Joker is a 2000 Malayalam film directed by Lohithadas, starring Dileep, Manya and Nishanth Sagar in the lead roles. This was the last film of the Malayalam actor Bahadoor.

Synopsis

Royal Circus, owned by Govindan (T S Raju), is on rocks. With the help of his manager Khader (Mamukkoya), Govindan just manages to run the company, though not in a satisfactory manner. All the members of the troupe live as a family, sharing intimate bonds of love and camaraderie. Abookka (Bahadoor), once a clown, has turned insane. As he still insists on putting up the make-up and entering the ring, he is caged, when the show goes on. Babu (Dileep), the favourite of the troupe is the clown of Royal Circus. Abooka has trained him to become the perfect clown. And he has learned the perfect art of masking his sorrows behind the clown's ever laughing mask. He has been there in the troupe ever since his childhood, looking after the other children, especially Govindan's daughter Kamala (Manya). Govindan has always been saying that Babu is to be his heir and is to marry Kamala. And of course Babu, deep in his heart, has feelings of love for Kamala.The movie takes a turn when Sudheer Misra (Nishanth Sagar), the young son of Padmini (Reena), a former member of the troupe makes his entry into the camp. Sudheer's arrival marks the beginnings of change. He steers the company out of its crisis and gives it a new form and name as New Royal Circus.

The film is set against the backdrop of a circus company. Chandran is a circus performer. Thankam, a beautiful 17-year-old girl, is his childhood sweetheart. But, Thankam's mother Kalyani Amma forbids her to prolong her affair with Chandran. She wants Thankam to marry Gopi, a well known bully from the town. Thankam's father Paithal Nair, however rejects this proposal. But as the circus shifts to another village, everything goes wrong. The circus people owed some money to Paithal Nair which they were unable to pay. Despite the circus manager's assurances Kalyani Amma and Nair decide to hold the circus animals hostage until the circus manager repays his debt. Managing the animals soon becomes a nightmare and Paithal and family realize they have invited trouble (pulival pidikkuka - an expression in Malayalam for trouble, mess etc. It literally means catch a leopard by its tail). Paithal Nair is in financial stress and has no other way than to accept the marriage proposal from Gopi for his daughter. What will happen to Chandran and Thankam's romance? How does Paithal Nair overcome his problems? Answers to these questions form the rest of the story.

Sachidanandan (Dileep) runs an antique shop in the Jewish street at Kochi. He is famous for old Gramophone records. Dans les années 1870 à New York, l'entrepreneur américain Phineas Taylor Barnum (Hugh Jackman) cherche à développer une activité de divertissement pour améliorer les conditions de vie de sa famille. Barnum s'associe avec Philip Carlyle (Zac Efron), un jeune dramaturge populaire et influent qui va lui permettre de se faire connaître au-delà même des frontières américaines. Lors d'une visite au palais royal d'Angleterre, M. Barnum fait la connaissance de Jenny Lind (Rebecca Ferguson), une chanteuse à succès sur le continent européen, qu'il convainc de venir chanter aux États-Unis sous son aile. Grâce au talent de Miss Lind, ce nouveau spectacle est un succès et M. Barnum est encensé par les critiques, au point qu'il décide de risquer la vie de son cirque pour financer une tournée dans tout le pays avec sa nouvelle chanteuse.
