Kachehari is a Punjabi movie starring Rama Vij, Gurdas Mann, Yograj Singh and Vijay Tandon, released in 1994. The movie was about a woman's tryst with the Indian judicial system.

Kachehari was the costliest movie production it the time with production costs of a whopping 3.5 million rupees. Vijay Tandon, the producer, was adamant about what he had envisioned and cut no corners in financing his project. Contrary to the reports that circulated in the trade magazines, Kachehari broke all records in the regional language circuit and was amongst the top grossers in India, namely Thiruda-Thiruda that starred south Indian superstar Chiranjeevi.

Kachehari was not only a high-cost movie production but also proved to be a boost to the sagging careers of those associated with this movie.

The playback was rendered by well-known singers from Punjab, namely Surjit Bindrakhiya, Gurdas Maan, Sarabjeet Kaur, Sukhshinder Shinda, Dilshad Akhtar, Hans Raj Hans, Sardool Sikander, Amar Noorie and others. The soundtrack of the movie was a chartbuster across the radio stations and countdown shows as no one ever imagined such an ensemble of singers in one single album. Gautam Vijay Films released the music separately as a music album called Sur Punjab De, meaning "The Vocals of Punjab".

Kachehari was liked by the audience across all classes and was a favourite among the critics, too. Kachehari was conferred with the National Award in the Best Film category in 1994. It was one of the finest cinematic illustrations from Vijay Tandon, known for his exemplary writings and cinematic storytelling.

Gautam Vijay Films is planning to recreate the magic with a remake of Kachehari. Gautam Tandon will be executing this project under the astute guidance of his father Vijay Tandon. The remake will be based in the summer of 2008 and would incorporate a contemporary look. It is on the storyboard and ad filmmaker Ron Singh has been roped in to direct it.

The film opens in the ruins of Kali Pahari (Black Hills, a decrepit complex of caves), and introduces the vampire Neola. Neola, a Dracula-like vampire, sleeps in a coffin by day, and transforms into a bat at night to hunt humans from the neighbouring villages. He craves a steady supply of human blood, and a supply of fresh young women (so he may seduce them and spread his evil seed). Neola is assisted by a ragtag bunch of servants who lure innocent humans (mostly women) to Kali Pahari so Neola may easily prey on them. His servants include Mahua (a witch-woman), Mahaguru (an evil priest), a tantrik (evil wizard) and various other henchmen that provide muscle for his evil deeds.

The story is set in 1962, the time of Sino-India war. It revolves around a widowed teacher named Ritu who is transferred to Koronga, a small Assamese village. The school here was destroyed by fire ten years earlier. Ritu takes on the challenge of rebuilding the school and starts campaigning among the villager. Ritu manages to build a school. It starts functioning under a large village-tree. Then comes a supposedly 'son of the soil' who, having lost his job there, wants to take over the school. When Ritu fights back against the threats and even physical assault, the man brings his ruffian friends and sets fire to the school house. She has to return with a heavy heart. However she is comforted by the promise of the inhabitants of reconstructing the school so that no one can suppress the spark of knowledge.
