Shobaraj (Mohanlal) is the leader of an underworld gang who in spite of being one of the most wanted on the list of Interpol, remains elusive to the police. Along with the police, He makes a few other enemies through his merciless approach to running his organization, especially when he kills one of his own men, Babu, when the latter decides to leave the business. This introduces Shobaraj to two new enemies, Julie, Babu's fiancee, and Nisha, Babu's sister. When Julie seduces Sobharaj and attempts to have the police arrest him, her plan backfires as Shobaraj outsmarts her and the police in his escape, and in the process, Julie is killed. A shattered, revenge-seeking Nisha gets trained in judo and karate, then enters Shobaraj's gang after deceiving them into thinking that she too is on the wrong side of the law. Shobaraj is impressed with her fighting skills and allows her to work for him, without realizing her true intentions.

The film opens with an illegal cockfighting competition held in a small village in central Kerala. Suddenly police enters in to the field and arrests Shivan (Mammootty), and Suku (Lalu Alex) for holding money betting. But on way, they are saved by village youths under Chellan (Bharath Gopi), a local goon, who is also a close buddy of Shivan. Both Chellan and Shivan share a strong friendship and are more like brothers. Shivan is in love with Chellan's younger sister (Seema) and Chellan and his mom have given green signal to it. Chandri ( Urvashi), the sister of Shivan, is his everything and his whole happiness revolves around her. Bhadran (Mohanlal), the younger brother of Chellan is too aggressive like him and picks up fight for every silly reasons. Its usually Shivan, who sorts out the fights that he picks up every day. Things are going very smoothy until one day Chandri gets pregnant. Chandri, in order to pacify Shivan reveals him that it is Chellan, who is responsible for this, whereas it was Thampi, her neighbor who was actually responsible. Shivan, in a sudden rage kills Chellan and surrenders at police station himself. Bhadran, but turns violent by this incident and vows to take revenge.

The film begins with a flashback where two brothers Ravindra Varma(V. K. Sreeraman) and Mahendra Varma(Kalasala Babu) fighting for the royal family treasure along with their sons. During the fight a prism from the idol of the goddess breaks. The brothers get frightened and immediately stop the fight. Savithri (Sheela) is the only daughter of Govindan (T.S.Muthiah) who is employed in the tea estates owned by Madhavan Thampi (Satyan). One day Madhavan Thampi spots Savithri singing near the stream and is attracted towards her. Raghavan (Govindankutty) is the local leader of the labourers. Rajan (K.P.Ummer), another leader of the estate workers is involved in a criminal case framed against him by the estate owners and the police is in search of him. Rajan gets refuge in Savithri's house through Raghavan. Love blooms between Savithri and Rajan. One day Madhavan Thampi happens to see Rajan in his hideout. Savithri fears that Thampi may report it to the police. Her friend Thankamma (Jayabharathi) advises her to approach Thampi and plead with him to not report to the police. Accordingly Savithri reaches Thampi's bungalow and is raped by him. Thampi then informs the police and Rajan is arrested.
