Manchi Donga (Telugu: మంచి దొంగ, English: Good Thief) is a 1988 Telugu film directed by K. Raghavendra Rao. The film stars Chiranjeevi, Vijayashanti and Suhasini Mani Ratnam.

Synopsis

Manchi Donga, has Chiranjeevi as Veerendra who liked by one and all. Even though he is a thief, Veerendra he follows certain principles. Suryam and Chandram are father and son who are involved in an illegal occupation. Madhavi (Suhasini) who is a lawyer, meets Veerendra and she is attracted towards him for his kindheartedness towards poor people. Vijaya (Vijayasanthi), a friend of Madhavi enters the city as a police inspector. She warns Veerendra for his activities but Madhavi supports him. Once Veerendra steals an evidence from Gannayya, who is also a corrupt person and this has all the details of the activities of Suryam and Chandram. He hands it over to inspector Vijaya. She is very much impressed with his deed and now develops a soft corner for him. After a couple of songs, veerendra decides to marry Vijaya, while Madhavi sacrifices her silent love for her friend. Veerendra surrenders to the police and is sent to jail. He studies in jail and becomes a police inspector. After his release, he deals with anti-social elements with iron hand and also gets sword of honour for his efforts.

Ramu (NTR) is a lorry driver who personally does not tolerate injustice anywhere. With his hard work, he soon becomes a lorry owner. He has a blind sister Meena (Roja Ramani) to whom he is very affectionate. A police inspector by the name of Raja Reddy (Sridhar), admiring Ramu's sincerity and truthfulness, comes forward to marry the blind girl. Meanwhile, Chukkamma (Jayasudha), who runs a small hotel on the highway, and Ramu fall in love with each other. Ramu renders help to one of Chukkamma’s relatives, another lorry driver named Vasu (Kaikala Satyanarayana). They become good friends. Kamal Babu (Mohan Babu) soon enters the scene, implicates Ramu in a smuggling case and succeeds in sending him to jail. How Ramu manages to prove his innocence and brings the story to its logical, happy end constitutes the rest of the narrative.

In Kondaveedu, there is an old Gadwal fort and every one in that village believes that there is a hidden treasure inside. Pundarika Ranganathudu (Nandamuri Balakrishna) is a follower of Lord Krishna (Nandamuri Balakrishna) but for the wrong reasons and does not listen to his father (K.Vishwanath) and his mother. He does all the mischievous things that Lord Krishna did in his reign. Once when his family members ask him to marry he leaves his village and runs away. After his family members perform a yagnam he comes back to his village. In the neighboring village Lakshmi (Sneha) is a big devotee of Lord Krishna. One night Lord Krishna appears in her dreams and asks her to marry Pundarika. So Lakshmi's father approaches Pundarika but he refuses. Later, after some persuasion from Lakshmi, Pundarika accepts the marriage. Meanwhile a dancer Amrutha (Tabu) comes to their village. Pundarika is mesmerized by her beauty and gets into a relationship with her. He offers all the gold in his house to her. But, after the marriage, he stops visiting Amrutha. Knowing this Amrutha's mother calls Pundarika for a meal and serves kala kuta rasayanam, which makes him violent at a small sound and grabs all his wealth. Then he lands in an unknown place where he kicks a saint (Mohan Babu) and is cursed. The rest of the film is about how Pundarika returns backs to his family and becomes a devotee of Lord Krishna.
