Donald O'Connor also has a small part as the younger version of MacMurray's character. The two would soon star in the film Sing You Sinners together along with Bing Crosby.
Synopsis
In 1903, the Wright Brothers set the scene for aviation's advances and influence barnstormer, Pat Falconer (Fred MacMurray) and his friend, engineer Scott Barnes (Ray Milland). Falconer marries childhood sweetheart Peggy Ransom (Louise Campbell) although Barnes also loves her, but is unwilling to jeopardize his relationship with his friend.Acteurs

Une jeune femme nommée Hilda travaille pour les riches Clarksons, éleveurs de moutons, et rêve d’être une grande chanteuse. Triangle amoureux entre un instructeur joué par Preston Foster, son apprenti pilote Anglais en la personne de John Sutton et la très jolie Cattle Queen du coin en la personne de la délicieuse Gene Tierney. C'est l'occasion de découvrir l'entrainement des jeunes pilotes étrangers(Chinois, Anglais) aux Etats-Unis pendant la seconde guerre mondiale. Le film semble avoir été tourné avant l'entrée en guerre des Etats-Unis et le ton est relativement léger. Quelques bons moments de comédie, et des scénes d'entrainement aériennes réussies. Il faut dire que Wellman est un spécialiste en la matière.

Jack Powell est un jeune homme passionné des sports automobiles. Sa voisine, Mary Preston, est follement amoureuse de lui, mais il ne lui prête aucune attention. Four young men from various walks of life sign up as flyers for the Lafayette Escadrille, a military unit known as "The Legion of the Condemned" composed mostly of American volunteer pilots flying fighters in World War I. All four men are running away from something—the law, love, or themselves. Whenever a dangerous mission comes up, the four men draw cards to see who will fly off to near-certain doom. With his best friend Byron Dashwood (Barry Norton) already having died in combat, Gale Price (Gary Cooper) draws the high card next time around.

During World War II, Chief Aviation Pilot Ned Trumpet (Wallace Beery) is in charge of a dirigible at Lakehurst, New Jersey naval base. "Old Gas Bag" brags about his "son" and realizes that he will need someone to impersonate his fictional son. Trumpet finds Jess Weaver (Tom Drake), a young disabled man, arranging for an operation to fix his legs, injured in a riding accident. Afterward, Weaver goes along with the deception and soon earns his Navy wings and commission as an Ensign. While on a submarine patrol mission, his "father" orders an unauthorized and premature attack on a German submarine, (orders have been sent to break off the attack, the "father" does not convey the orders) but the youngster's bomb misses and the submarine fires back, hitting the airship. Trumpet takes over the controls and sinks the submarine, but Weaver faces a court-martial for disobeying orders but the older man takes the blame for his actions. Young Weaver is awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, he gives the DFC ribbon to his "father." Leaving Lakehurst, young Weaver attends pilots training at NAS Pensacola.
