Mr. Bones 2: Back from the Past is a 2008 comedy film directed by Gray Hofmeyr, co-written by Gray Hofmeyr and Leon Schuster and starring Leon Schuster, Tongayi Chirisa, Leeanda Reddy, Kaseran Pillay, Meren Reddy. It is the second in the Mr Bones series.

Released by Videovision Entertainment, Mr. Bones 2 was a blockbuster, surpassing Mr Bones to become the most financially successful film released in South Africa.

Synopsis

Mr. Bones 2: Back from the Past takes place in 1879, and the titular Character is the great great grandfather of the Mr. Bones from the first film. It is the story of Hekule, the King of Kuvukiland who is given a gemstone by the dying Kunji Balanadin. The stone is cursed and causes Hekule to become possessed by the spirit of the mischievous Kunji, which Bones describes as "wild rider". It is up to Mr. Bones to cure his King and get rid of this cursed stone by travelling 130 years into the future, in the city of Durban. They meet a woman named Reshmi who gave them important clues to the gem and returning the gem to its home in an Indian fishing village named Ataram.

In South Africa, Sweet Coetzee wins an award for 20 years service as a sportscaster on his 40th birthday, beating his rival, pompous George "The Weasle" Weedle. After Sweet gets drunk one night at his birthday party, he misses a sportscast and his boss, Bryce Williams demotes him to interviewer and promotes Weedle. Through the next part of the film we see that Sweet is reckless as he openly says his girlfriend, Sandy is "the best bum in the business". A subplot of the film are two robbers, "Bossy" and "Savage" who the main characters remain remotely unaware of as they are just a comic theme. Sweet pulls a prank on Weedle during a golf game and is suspended for six month. Sweet also records Weedle having humorous intercourse with a prostitute, "The Orphan in a Storm". Sweet then decides to drown his sorrows in a casino at the slot machines, where he tricks a small boy, Alfred "Shorty" Short into thinking he is a genie. Bossy and Savage try to rob the casino when they accidentally break the disco ball and it knocks Sweet unconscious just as he hits the jackpot.

Thèbes, au temps de la grandeur des pharaons. L’épouse du pharaon complote contre son mari et ambitionne de monter sur le trône. Elle s’allie secrètement avec les Assyriens, ennemis jurés de l’Egypte, et, afin de mettre en déroute les armées égyptiennes, fait absorber au géant Maciste un philtre magique. Ce breuvage a la particularité d’anéantir toute volonté et d’asservir totalement le sujet qui le boit. La perfide reine parvient ensuite à convaincre Maciste qu’il parte décimer les armées du pharaon. Au même moment arrive à Thèbes le charlatan Totokamen, qui prétend être l’homme le plus fort du monde.
