Madhavan, Soha Ali Khan, Irrfan Khan, Paresh Rawal and Kay Kay Menon. It deals with the aftermath of the 11 July 2006 Mumbai train bombings, where 209 people lost their lives and over 700 were injured. It won multiple Filmfare Awards.

Sridhar Vasudevan (Madhavan) is a middle-class family man employed in a bank. Sridhar is very idealistic, principled and recognises a deep sense of belonging with the society he is part of. He gets annoyed and flustered by illegal and semi legal activities happening around him. His wife persistently demands that he should be more 'flexible' and make more money, but Sridhar does not accede. He endures the illegal and semi legal activities around him because he anticipates a change in the mindsets of people. He feels that over time, they will become more honest, socially aware and willing to make small personal sacrifices for the greater good of all (like him).

Sue McKinley (Alice Patten), une jeune londonienne, rêve depuis longtemps de réaliser un film d’après les mémoires de son grand-père, membre de la force de police britannique en Inde au début de la révolte indienne pour l’indépendance. Cependant ceux-ci ont du mal à comprendre les motivations de leur personnage, eux qui ne croient pas en l’avenir de ce pays corrompu à tous les échelons politiques. Dans ce pays où rien n’a réellement changé depuis l’Indépendance de l’Inde, comment peuvent-ils croire en l’engagement de ces premiers révolutionnaires ? Cependant l’interprétation de leur personnage dans le film de Sue, ainsi que l’événement dramatique survenu à leur ami Ajay (Madhavan), vont les amener à changer totalement et tous vont s’engager dans un combat très dangereux. Pour leur ami et pour changer leur pays et la sociétè de la corruption et de l'injustice ils ont sacrifié leur vie.

Sultana (Sadiya Siddiqui), a small town prostitute and her pimp Khudabaksh migrate to the metropolis bringing with them their dreams and meagre belongings. Initially she is bewildered by the crowds and pace of the city. With the help of Anwari (a madam or perhaps a witch) she learns how to find her bearings. As she further encounters the city and its inhabitants new perspectives open up - sad, comical, ironical but always mysterious. Sultana goes about her bright and artful seductions but somehow misses her targets. Her business collapses. Desperately, Khudabaksh too tries his hands at many jobs but is unsuccessful. His faith in his camera is replaced by his belief in a holy man. Sultana finds herself bereft and turns pensive. Her loneliness and despair get objectified in her desire for the 'kali salwaar' (black lower garment) that she needs to complete her black ensemble for the observance of mourning in Moharram.

The story revolves around a group of people who were not connected to each other in any way other than by ill fate. These were people from different parts of India who had traveled to the US and now were boarding the ill-fated flights that crashed into the Twin Towers and Pentagon on 9/11. The story tells us about the horror of the hijack and some of the incidents that occurred on board during those horrific minutes. Some of the characters in the film die in the accident.
