Saroj Kumar is a matinée idol and megastar in Kerala churning out hits one after the other. But a few of his recent movies, such as Vekkeda Vedi, turns out to be big flops. His new film, directed by Alex Samuel, gets cancelled on the first day of shooting when Saroj slaps fellow actor Shyam for some silly reasons. Pachalam Bhasi, the producer, tries for a compromise, but Saroj is not ready to apologise.

The story is around Ramachandran (Mukesh) who comes back from Dubai to the village posing as a rich business man with a fortune. Kunjoottan (Sreenivasan) is an innocent young man living in a remote village. He is the only heir to his rich, aristrocratic parents, Thamburan(Nedumudi Venu) and Kunjulakshmi(Sukumari). He cannot stand his overprotective father, who is concerned about his son because he had a bad dream about his son's death. The family astrologer Panikker(Oduvil Unnikrishnan) confirms this and predicts that it will be difficult for Kunjoottan to survive the age of 30 and that he is in great danger from motor vehicles. Worried Thamburan hires two ex-Mahouts Valiya Raman Nair(Kuthiravattom Pappu) and Cheriya Raman Nair(Mamukkoya) to protect Kunjoottan, which further annoys him.

Bhaskaran(Sreenivasan), the local village goldsmith is in love with Snehalatha(Urvashi), the daughter of P.V.Panicker(Innocent), the local astrologer. They are neighbors. Snehalatha asks for a gold necklace made of 10 pavans (sovereigns) as a symbol of Bhaskaran's love. Bhaskaran makes a necklace and hands it over to Snehalatha. An angry Panicker (her father) finds this out, admonishes her and pockets the golden necklace. He reasons that it was "brotherly love" which made Bhaskaran give the necklace to his daughter.
