It stars Ajay Devgn, Madhoo, Aruna Irani, Jagdeep and Amrish Puri among others. The film marked the debut of Ajay Devgn, son of stunt and action choreographer Veeru Devgan, and Madhoo, niece of actress Hema Malini. The film won Ajay Devgn, the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for 1991.
Phool Aur Kaante was a Super Hit at the box office in India, and was noted for its soundtrack.
the movie is loosey based on a Malayalam film Parampara (1990) starting Mammootty and Suresh Gopi.
Ajay Devgan's entry in the film became very popular where he appeared standing, balancing on two moving motorcycles. Similar stunts have been repeated in a number of films since.
Synopsis
Nageshwar alias "Don" heads a vast criminal empire. He has an only son, (Ajay Devgn), who is completely familiar with his dad and his business. So is Ajay's wife, who would like to put an end to all these criminal activities. When Nageshwar starts showing signs of ageing, he decides that it is now time for Ajay to take over from him. Ajay does so, however, a number of Nageshwar's associates are unhappy, embittered, and critical of this choice, and as a result they, under the leadership of Shankar Dhanraj kidnap Ajay's son, Gopal, and hold him for ransom. Will Nageshwar negotiate his grandson's release, or will his grandson be another sacrifice of his "empire"? How will Ajay and his wife react to this?Acteurs

The story is based in Kashmir. It starts with a sad Radhika (Sonali Bendre) being introduced to an Army Major (Parmeet Sethi) by her father, Raja Saab (Shakti Kapoor) an erstwhile king and current politician. Raja Saab tells her that the Major will be a good husband for her. On the day of the engagement, news breaks of a terrorist attack in a nearby village led by the terrorist, Shaka (Ajay Devgan). The Major and Raja Saab leave with a large force to that village. But that turns out to be a ruse as Shaka comes to the place of the engagement and burns the marriage Mandap. Then he gives a long look to Radhika, who looks at him with hatred, and leaves. Shaka reaches his lair where he meets his leader, Dara (Amrish Puri) and Shabnam (Madhoo) and the rest of his gang. Dara welcomes him and proclaims him to be Diljale. Shabnam, who loves him, tries to hug him but Shaka rebuffs it.

Inspector Suryadev Singh (Amrish Puri) is an honest and efficient cop in the city. He has a granddaughter Kajal (Twinkle Khanna), whom he has brought up after her parents were poisoned by his enemies, and whom he values more than his life. But Suryadev’s cousin Vishambar (Suresh Oberoi) is plotting the complete ruin of Suryadev, along with his wife and his brother in law Bhanwari (Shakti Kapoor) because Vishambar’s deceased father gives all his share of property, including a village Sundernagar, to Suryadev as Vishambar has married someone against his wishes. So Vishambar plans to kill Kajal, as then his revenge will be complete, and the property will fall into his hands since there would be no one to inherit it from Suryadev, which his son Nagendra can inherit. For this purpose, Vishambar hires Karan (Ajay Devgan).

Police Inspector Jai (Govinda) lives a middle-class life with his mother (Aruna Irani) and physically and mentally challenged brother Sunder (Govinda in double role). One day he arrests a man named Pandey, and after questioning him, finds out that the person behind this crime was a man named Guman Singh (Raza Murad). He gets on the trail of Guman Singh, arrests him, and keeps him in a cell. Then a series of explosions creat havoc in the city, with the assailants demanding the unconditional release of Guman. Elaan is a declaration of war against the reign of terror unleashed by the ganglords. The story revolves around an upright and principled Police Officer, A.C.P. Ramakant Chaudhary whose eldest son Vikas is killed in a pre-planned accident. But the A.C.P. is unable to nab the culprits for want of valid evidence. Consequently, the A.C.P., his wife Revati and younger son Vishal are griefstricken over the loss of young Vikas. While the atmosphere in the city is already vitiated by the atrocities of ganglords Baba Khan and Manna Shetty who enjoy the support of some unscrupulous police personnel, the A.C.P. vows to make the ruthless gangsters bite the dust, without taking the law in his own hands. On the other hand, Vishal an angry young man, cannot stand this injustice since the police had failed to arrest his brother's killers, and he silently resents his A.C.P father's inaction in dealing with the culprits. The ideologies of the father and son clash – which lead to a conflict between a dutiful father and a reckless son. The only one who understands the agony of Vishal is Mohini, the daughter of head constable Devkinandan Sharma. The day comes when Vishal confronts Baba Khan and Manna Shetty which leads to tension and gory situation for the A.C.P., as the ganglords threaten to eliminate the A.C.P. as well as his wife Revati and son Vishal.
