Synopsis
Seth Dharamdas has two daughters: the older one is Asha(Vidya Sinha) and the younger one is Kaajal(Kaajal Kiran). Dharamdas had struck a business deal with Dhanraj. Here, Asha marries her love interest Akash(Vinod Mehra), but he dies in an air crash. Asha grieves his loss, following which Dharamdas cancels his plan to sell the factory and decides to dedicate the factory as a souvenir to Akash.Acteurs

Dr. Sameer (Navin Nischal) has just landed to his native place Chandan Nagar after finishing his medical studies in Russia. There is a village named Haridaspur where, Ashok Sharma (Rajesh Khanna) has been posted as an Inspector in charge. When he arrives in the remote village, he comes to the rescue of a blind man and a widow, and has a fist fight with Nishikant Shah and his men. The immediate next day, Shah finds out that the person with whom his men fought with was Ashok itself. Then to make friendship with Ashok, he goes to pay homage, but Ashok refuses. After string of incidences Ashok comes to know of all the bad activities carried out by Nishikant Shah and MLA Gopal Choudary (Om Shivpuri). Ashok then realises he has to help the people of the village from getting exploited from these rich men. Meanwhile he starts to live in the village as a paying guest at the house of a girl Asha(Shabana Sidique) and also gets fond of an orphan child from the village named Chotu. Ashok then learns that Chotu's father was a loyal farmer who was duped and was killed by Nishikant's men. He even promises Chotu of bringing the culprits to book. Somehow then Shah and his friend Choudhry manage to put Ashok in trouble by fixing a blame on him of killing a man in his custody. Due to this he then faces a situation where he could lose his job and his good reputation too.

The story is set around 1580, in the time of King Akbar. Biramdev (Dr Shreeram Lagoo) is the king of Medta, a province in Rajasthan. He has two daughters, Meera (Hema Malini) and Krishna (Vidya Sinha) and a son, Jaimal (Dinesh Thakur). Meera is in deep emotional love with Lord Krishna, so much so that she considers Lord Krishna to be her husband. Akbar (Amjad Khan) is becoming stronger day by day and hence other small provinces are trying to join against him. Medta, in one such political agreement, decides to join hands with Raja Vikramajit (Shammi Kapoor). As a part of this agreement Meera is married (against her wish) to Vikramajit's son, Rana Bhojraj (Vinod Khanna). But even after getting married her love for Lord Krishna remains the same and she follows her own ideals and way of living which are not very acceptable to Bhojraj and his family. One thing leads to another and one day Meera is declared as an outcast and traitor who failed to play a wife's duties towards her husband, a bride's duties towards her family, and a woman's duties towards society. She is jailed and a public trial is ordered to decide her fate. But Meera is still unshakable and her spirituality keeps her going. She is not even afraid of death. Finally she is given a death sentence and is ordered to drink a cup of venom in front of the public.
