It was released on a symbolic date, on Friday, 12th of January, in 1979, as it pertains to the functioning of the Indian police department, pitched against international organized crime. 12th of January 1863 marks the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, who is perhaps best known for his inspiring speech which began, "Sisters and brothers of America ...," in which he introduced Hinduism at the Parliament of the World's Religions in Chicago in 1893. The film stars Vinod Khanna and Jasmin in lead roles.
Synopsis
Police inspector Anand is very honest, he is known for his honesty, diligence and bravery. He single handedly captures and arrests notorious smuggler and criminal Jack Ranjit, who is sentenced to several years of jail. Anand Vinod Khanna in disguise, also captures gangster Gulkhan Amjad Khan, who is also sentenced to a long term in jail. Anand's wife Rekha is not very honest and trustworthy and has an affair with another man named Somesh. There are a lot of fights and arguments between husband and wife and Anand threatens to kill her. He starts following his wife hoping to catch her and Somesh redhanded. Shortly after that Rekha and Somesh are found dead and Anand is arrested for their murder though he has not killed them. To prove his innocence and to find the real murderers he escapes from jail and surprisingly comes back face to face with his foes. Ultimately he is proved innocent and the real murderer is arrested.Acteurs

Haridas Choudhry lives a wealthy lifestyle in Mumbai, India, along with his wife, Sonu, son, Guddu, and sister, Geeta. He had started his career as a lowly cobbler on a corner of a busy street, but is now the owner of a shoe company. His associates want him to make shoes that wear out soon, but he refuses to do so, and would like to buy out National Shoes for 20 Lakh Rupees. He withdraws the money, but before he could undertake the transaction, Guddu gets kidnapped, and the demand from his abductors is for 20 Lakhs. Much to his relief he finds out that his servant's son, Bansi, has been mistakenly abducted in place of his son. Nevertheless he decides to pay the ransom, this time with the help of Inspector Amarnath Gill, his sister's estranged boyfriend, who he had turned down as he was not wealthy enough. The money is turned over to the kidnappers, two associates, Manmohan and Preeti, are arrested, Bansi is found and returned to his dad. But the money and the real abductor, Raj Singh, is still at large - and as long as he remains at large none of them can really be safe for he has a grudge to settle against Haridas, and the missing 20 Lakhs may result in the bankruptcy of Haridas' company, they may have to forfeit their family home, and Haridas may well face a jail sentence for embezzling this amount for personal gain. But Inspector catches the thief and returns the money in the end.

Rajesh (Feroz Khan) was a motorcycle stuntman in a circus and is now a thief, expert in breaking open treasuries. In one such robbery, he is being watched by a jolly but shrewd police inspector Amjad Khan (Amjad Khan). Sheela (Zeenat Aman) is a gorgeous disco club dancer and singer. Rajesh and Sheela are in love. Rajesh has not disclosed to Sheela that he is a thief. An evil brother-sister duo- Vikram (Shakti Kapoor) and Jwaala (Aruna Irani) seek revenge against crime boss Rakka (Amrish Puri) who cheated Jwaala and siphoned her money. They hire Rajesh to break open Rakka's treasury and steal back the money. Vikram pays Rajesh a token amount to do the job. But suddenly Inspector Amjad Khan arrests Rajesh and the court sentences Rajesh to two years imprisonment. Sheela is devastated after she realizes Rajesh was a thief.

Major Ranjeet Khanna (Vinod Khanna) is in love with his wife Pushpa, who seems to love him as well. His commanding officer, also his father-in-law, is played by Iftekar. Ranjeet is happy with his marriage, until he finds out about his wife's affair with his best friend. He kills them both and turns himself in to the police. Then, he escapes from the police to find the Ganges River, because he wanted to fulfill his wife's wish of dropping her wedding necklace into the river. However, the police shoot him first and he is hospitalized, where he becomes emotionally attached to the doctors (Om Shivpuri, Asrani) and the nurse (Farida Jalal), who are also devastated when he is sentenced to hang.

The story is set around 1580, in the time of King Akbar. Biramdev (Dr Shreeram Lagoo) is the king of Medta, a province in Rajasthan. He has two daughters, Meera (Hema Malini) and Krishna (Vidya Sinha) and a son, Jaimal (Dinesh Thakur). Meera is in deep emotional love with Lord Krishna, so much so that she considers Lord Krishna to be her husband. Akbar (Amjad Khan) is becoming stronger day by day and hence other small provinces are trying to join against him. Medta, in one such political agreement, decides to join hands with Raja Vikramajit (Shammi Kapoor). As a part of this agreement Meera is married (against her wish) to Vikramajit's son, Rana Bhojraj (Vinod Khanna). But even after getting married her love for Lord Krishna remains the same and she follows her own ideals and way of living which are not very acceptable to Bhojraj and his family. One thing leads to another and one day Meera is declared as an outcast and traitor who failed to play a wife's duties towards her husband, a bride's duties towards her family, and a woman's duties towards society. She is jailed and a public trial is ordered to decide her fate. But Meera is still unshakable and her spirituality keeps her going. She is not even afraid of death. Finally she is given a death sentence and is ordered to drink a cup of venom in front of the public.

Sherpal (Ulhas) and Tailab (Manmohan Krishan) are chiefs of two opposing clans who regularly meet at an annual competition that highlights their combative strengths in fields of weaponry. Sherpal's daughter Angara (Sandhya) is a tomboy who has been taught all that is required for the competition. She defeats Vikram (Prashant) who is from the clan of Taibal. The two fall in love, but cannot marry due to the old feud. Angara’s mother (Lalita Pawar) is after her to behave like a girl and dress accordingly. She finally gives in to her mother's demands. When her father dies, Mangal (M. Rajan) appears claiming to be her bethrothed, chosen by her father. When things start taking a violent turn she agrees to marry him. Mangal then treats her badly after marriage. Angara suffers the humiliation and even carries a heavy weight across the desert, a punishment meted out to her by Mangal. As she trudges through the desert she comes across a dying Vikram, who asks for water. She attempts to give him water against her husband's wishes, and is shot by Mangal. Angara and Vikram die together.
