S. V. Rajendra Singh Babu (Kannada: ರಾಜೇಂದ್ರ ಸಿಂಗ್ ಬಾಬು) is a Kannada film maker and producer. He was born and brought up in Mysore. His father late Shankar Singh was one of the great producers in Kannada Film Industry and has produced many films under the banner Mahatma Pictures (Mysore). Rajendra Singh Babu has made movies in different genres. He has written and directed love stories, War, suspense thrillers and comedy movies. Many of his films have been adapted from novels or short stories. He is not only famous in Karnataka but also across all of India. Babu has won numerous awards for his films and has also directed movies in the Hindi and Telugu languages. Vijayalakshmi Singh, wife of actor Jai Jagadish is his sister.

Annayya is a story of a person named "Annayya"(Ravichandran) who is the only child of a rich Landlord(Srinath) and had lost his mother at the time of his birth. Annayya's father can provide him anything he wants but Annayys's only desire is to get mother's love. In order to fulfill his son's desire Sreenath gets married to Nagamani(Aruna Irani), thinking that she could take care of him more than his real mother would. As the day passes, Nagamani's brother Dheerendra Gopal enters into Annayya's house by convincing Sreenath that he has lost all his properties due to some loss. Then Dheerendra Gopal asks her sister Nagamani to get the property of annayya's to be nominated into her name so as to think of her child which is about to enter into the outside world. Then Nagamani makes Annayya to follow each and every step that her mother says and not to take even a single decision without her permission. He even stops going to school and become a slave to his mother.

Achappa (Vishnuvardhan) is a soldier from Madikeri who is injured while the Second World War is raging. In the hospital he meets an Army nurse (Suhasini) who is also from Coorg. After the War both get married in Madikeri. Achappa goes back to the Army and his wife lives with her in-laws. She has Achappa's son but she becomes barren after giving birth. The son is named Viraj but Achappa hasn't seen him as he hasn't had a break from the Army.
