Claire, Jimmie et Mary ont passé leur enfance ensemble à la campagne. À l'âge adulte, Claire part à New York et devient une vedette du théâtre. Jimmie, qui a toujours voulu être un inventeur, part lui aussi à New York pour vendre son invention. Il y retrouve Claire et bientôt leur ancienne amitié se transforme en amour. Pendant ce temps, à la campagne, Ralph et David Harding, qui fabriquent la machine de Jimmie, décident de s'en octroyer les droits. Mary arrive elle aussi à New York et dit à Claire qu'elle est amoureuse de Jimmie, l'actrice décide alors de lui laisser une chance. Lorsqu'ils apprennent que les Harding sont sur le point de réussir leur méfait, l'amour de Mary pour Jimmie diminue. Claire et Jimmie se ruent alors à la campagne à temps pour sauver l'entreprise.

As described in a film magazine, Gordon Carbhoy (Ray), the spoiled son of wealthy father James Carbhoy (French) who owns several railroads, is sent out by his father to turn $5,000 into $100,000, which the son claimed to be able to do. Gordon meets Silas Mallinsbee (Nichols) at Buffalo Falls, where the son is eager to have the railroad build a station at that point. Mallinsbee cannot come to an agreement with David Slosson (McKim), the representative of Gordon's father. Gordon takes things into his own hands and makes a captive of Slosson. When his father shows up, Gordon takes him captive also. Using his father's code, Gordon orders a train crew to come to Buffalo Falls and construction of the station begins. After work is well underway, Gordon brings his report to his father, who is proud of his son. By then the little love affair between Gordon and Hazel, daughter of Mallinsbee, comes to a head, and Hazel promises to become Gordon's wife.

As described in a film magazine, Marie Dubois (Reed), deserted by her lover before the birth of her child, marries Flambon (French), who is cruel and heartless. When her daughter Claudine (Hope) reaches womanhood, Flambon forces her to sing in his cafe and then endeavors her to marry one of his creditors. Marie interferes and Flambon takes hold of her by the throat. Claudine, fearing for her mother's safety, kills him. She is arrested and taken before the grand prosecutor, who discovers that Claudine is really his own child. During the trial he enforces the same rigidity which have characterized his other trials, but in the end confesses that he is the girl's father, resigns his position, and places himself at the mercy of the public. He is allowed to go free and solemnly promises to make up to his wife and daughter what they have missed.

Dolly Morgan travaille comme standardiste dans un hôtel chic, espérant trouver des hommes riches pour prendre leur argent. Isaac Nelson (French) is the tight-fisted president of a country bank and owns a farm, where his son Everett (Ray) works long hours every day, even on Sundays. Everett wears his father's cast-off clothes, and after his mother (Knott) buys him a mail order suit, Everett goes to a Fourth of July picnic. The father sees his wife doing on the farm doing the son's work and then trashes the son. Everett Nelson run off to the big city and gets a job as a janitor at a theater. There he meets a showman who puts him in a cabaret as a country dancer doing the "clodhopper slide," making $200 a week. Back in his hometown, rumors start to spread about Everett, creating a run on Mr. Nelson's bank. Everett's girlfriend, Mary Martin (Wilson), goes to New York to ask him for help and sways him to return home. Everett saves the bank and he and Mary get married.

Aboard Jules's palatial yacht, he receives from Orchid Joe notes threatening his life. Joe is a lunatic who hates people who destroy flowers, and he plans to kill Jules with the help of a crew of maniacs on the yacht. Izzy gets aboard by announcing himself as "Muscle-Bound Murphy," along with Jake, and they promise to help the millionaire and his daughter, Marie. When Izzy is assigned to kill Jules, he feigns great joy and induces Jake to stand in for the assassination, but they are captured by the crew. Through his cleverness, Izzy outsmarts the maniacs and attracts a rescue party, thus closing the sale and winning the love of Marie.
