A DC-8 airliner on a regular flight departs for the Western United States when a bomb threat is made to the airline company that the plane belongs to. It is later revealed that the bomb is a pressure sensitive one and will set off if the plane goes below regular cruising altitudes. Several attempts to find the bomb on board the flight, including tearing open several areas in the cabin and cockpit, fail to no avail. Faced with a fuel shortage, the captain then comes up with the idea to land at an airport that is on a high altitude. Towards the end the bomb is discovered where it was last expected to be placed: The pilot's bag.

Vulcanologist Peter Slater Dan Cortese, studying elevated steam-activity on Angel Mountain, finds evidence of an impending eruption such as many animals lying dead for no apparent reason. His ex-girlfriend Kelly Adams, a resident of the eponymous town, is told about his findings—which unfortunately, happen to be during the peak tourist season. Kelly tries in vain to warn the townsfolk and council of the danger, but they fail to heed and evacuate—until the mountain shows ashfall. After several attempts to find a solution, Peter declares that the lava is soon going to come down like "a liquid avalanche" which gives Kelly the idea (due to Angel Mountain and some others nearby being snowcapped) of using a snow avalanche to stop the lava flow—at which Peter balks, until Kelly tells him of the lack of other albernatives. The two then set out skiing to planting explosives to set off a controlled avalanche to stop the flow—but in attempting to escape the resulting avalanche Peter gets buried and Kelly makes it into town to witness the result, the snow avalanche blocking off (and solidifying) the lava-flow. At that point, Peter manages to dig himself out and return to town, after which he and Kelly rekindle their romance.

Titanic follows three main story threads. Isabella Paradine is traveling on the Titanic to join her husband after attending her aunt's funeral in England. On the Titanic, she meets Wynn Park, her former lover. She falls in love with him again, and after a brief affair, she sends her husband a wireless saying they cannot be together anymore (despite their daughter). When the ship starts sinking, Isabella reluctantly leaves Wynn when he forces her to board a lifeboat. As the boat is lowered, Isabella confesses a long kept secret that her daughter Claire is actually Wynn's. Later on board the RMS Carpathia she is grief-stricken when she finds Wynn's lifeless body on deck amongst other victims who have died of hypothermia, but luckily, when the Carpathia reaches New York she is reunited with her family who are blissfully unaware of Isabella's tryst because the telegram was never sent out due to the sinking.

En 1916 à bord du navire-hôpital HMHS Britannic, Vera Campbell, un agent des services secrets britanniques, se fait passer pour une gouvernante afin d'enquêter sur la présence à bord d'un espion allemand. Campbell, ayant survécu au naufrage du Titanic, est continuellement stressée par sa mission. En 1972 une lame de fond a retourné le luxueux paquebot Poséidon au milieu de l'océan, et les quelques survivants attendent maintenant les secours. Douglas « Doug » Roberts, architecte, revient à San Francisco pour l'inauguration du plus grand gratte-ciel du monde (550 m) qu'il a lui-même conçu. À la suite d'un court-circuit résultant d'un échauffement de câbles électriques non isolés situés dans un local technique au 81e étage dont la cause est une installation électrique insuffisamment dimensionnée pour un tel bâtiment (économie d'argent sur la construction sans tenir compte des recommandations de l'architecte) ; un incendie se déclare donc dans ce local technique au moment même où la cérémonie bat son plein au 135e étage de l'immeuble. Alors que le feu se propage, détruisant tout sur son passage, Michael O'Hallorhan, colonel des sapeurs pompiers, tente de sauver les trois cents invités qui se sont retrouvés piégés par les flammes.
