Kushi (Radhika Pandit), Pratham (Tarun) and Sharan attend an interview where all the 3 are selected. Pratham starts loving Kushi and proposes her but everyone thinks he was trying to fool her as it was April 1. Later she marries her boss Abhi (Dilip Raj) not knowing that Pratham is in love with her. At her wedding reception, Pratham gives her a rose and announces in front of all that he loves her. But Kushi and Abhi ignore the incident as they think that he wants to give a shock to them.. But he continues to pine for Kushi, and, finally, quits his job much to Kushi's dismay. When another woman enters his life, the heart-broken Pratham decides to start life afresh.

Kaun Kitne Paani Mein is a story about two villages, Upri and Bairi. Upri is a village nestled in the hills and Bairi is at the base of the Hill Range although close to each other in proximity, are poles apart in every other measure as of water access and economic development. Upri is a village which had great economic and social status in the past and Bairi was then economically weaker. Upri was economically and class wise powerful in the past due to the land they had and the water fall from the hills as well as the large lake that was naturally created at the edge of Upri. The people of Upri were like royalty and they had used the people of Bairi as their employees. This had made the people of Bairi skilled in their work and also become good farmers. The people of Upri who assumed these good times would remain never planned for a rainy day and lived a rich life splurging on all the resources.

Three men are on death row. Jaggu (Jackie Shroff), a lawyer and a poet, is serving a sentence for murdering his wife because she was cheating on him with another man. Nagya (Nagesh Kukunoor), a man angry with the whole world, is arrested for murdering his wife too, but he claims that it was an accident where she falls off the sidewalk while they were in the middle of a heated argument. The prison's custodian is Mohan (Gulshan Grover), who attempts several methods to reform the prison's inmates. A documentary filmmaker, Chandrika (Juhi Chawla) comes to the jail to set a film about these three men. In the process, she finds redemption to her troubled marriage.
