Ajit Varman (Hindi: अजीत वर्मन sometimes also credited as Ajit Verman) born Ajit Singh Varman on 26 March 1947 is an Indian film music composer. He started his career in the 1960s as a musician for the likes of Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Pankaj Mullick and Salil Chowdhury in Calcutta (now Kolkata) as well as Shankar Jaikishan and Laxmikant Pyarelal in the 1970s in Mumbai (then Bombay) till 1975 when he decided to make the transition to full-time music direction.

Though the film had no songs,the background music for the film, especially for the chase sequence was lauded by the critics.

Vijeta (The Victor) is the coming-of-age story of Angad (Kunal Kapoor). Confused like any other teenager trying to find himself and caught in between the marital problems of his Maharashtrian mother Neelima (Rekha) and Punjabi father Nihal (Shashi Kapoor), it is time for him to decide what he wants to do with his life. Angad chooses to become a fighter pilot with the Indian Air Force. What follows is his struggle to become a victor both with his self and the outer world. Angad must learn to adapt to flying, leaving his mom and dad for long periods of time, as well as try and woo Anna who helps him overcome his fears and realize his potential as a fighter pilot. Nihal is a clean shaven Sikh, Neelima is a Hindu, Angad is a Sikh and Anna a Christian, while Angad's fellow officers represent all religion.

Bhiku Lahaniya (Om Puri), un adivasi travaillant dans une exploitation forestière du Maharashtra, est accusé d'avoir assassiné sa femme. Il est défendu par un jeune avocat brahmane, Bhaskar Kulkarni (Naseeruddin Shah), dont c'est le premier procès. Bhaskar a pour adversaire le procureur Dushane (Amrish Puri), son mentor et ami, qui est également un adivasi. Certain de la culpabilité de son client, qui refuse de lui adresser la parole, Bhaskar ne mène d'abord son enquête que par conscience professionnelle. Il se heurte d'une part au silence de la famille de Bhiku, d'autre part à l'opposition des notables de la ville, qui se font rapidement menaçants, et est peu à peu amené à douter de la culpabilité de son client.
