Biographie
Born in Portland, Oregon, Hailey-Moss began her acting career in the early 1960s with performances in Shakespearean festivals. She moved to New York City a few years later where she was cast in a series of Broadway plays, avant-garde productions, and motion pictures. She played the critically acclaimed role of Brenda in the 1970 film Lovers and Other Strangers.Hailey-Moss was married to Sesame Street writer Jeff Moss from 1973 until 1985. L'histoire se concentre sur deux hommes New-Yorkais en situation difficile : Donald Quinelle (Williams), un simple employé de bureau qui vient d'être licencié, et Sonny Paluso (Matthau), un propriétaire d'une station d'essence qui a été accidentellement détruite par Donald. Les deux hommes se rencontrent dans un restaurant qui se fait cambrioler par un homme dissimulé derrière un masque de ski (Jerry Reed). Donald se fait tirer dessus mais Sonny veille et prend soin de lui. Donald est interrogé sur l'actualité, et révèle par inadvertance l'identité de Sonny. La nuit, un cambrioleur se rend dans la maison de Sonny avec pour ordre de le tuer lui et sa fille Candice, mais Donald finit par le sauver. Sonny et Donald emmènent, menaçant avec un fusil, le cambrioleur Jack Locke à la police.

Marlo Thomas plays the title role; a young small-town woman, who moves away to the city when she becomes pregnant through a one-night stand. She meets film director Delano (Alda), who has received a draft notice and does not want to be inducted into the Army. Jenny and Delano take a liking to each other. Learning that an acquaintance got out of having to serve by having a baby on the way, Delano offers to marry Jenny, claim paternity and support her baby, if she in turn will play along, and he can avoid being drafted.
