Marshall James Napier is a New Zealand-born actor, dramatist and playwright. He is the father of actress Jessica Napier and the uncle of actor James Napier.
Before becoming an actor, Napier worked variously as an art student, factory worker and truck driver. In 1988, he moved with his wife and two children, Reuben and Jessica, to Australia, to pursue a career in acting, and has worked in theatre, film, and television productions. In his 40's, he began writing plays.

Musicien raté et immature, Dave tombe sous le charme de l'institutrice de son neveu, Miss Caroline. De nos jours en Écosse, un couple de touristes américains s'arrête pour écouter le récit d'un vieil homme : celui-ci leur parle de Angus MacMorrow, un jeune garçon qui vivait dans le grand manoir de Lord Killin en 1942 au bord du Loch Ness. Son père est parti au front en pleine Seconde Guerre mondiale et il désespère de le voir revenir. Un jour, alors qu'il ramassait des coquillages au bord du Loch, il trouve un œuf étrange qu'il ramène au manoir, sans savoir de quelle espèce il provient. Plus tard, lorsque l'œuf éclôt, Angus se retrouve face à une étrange créature marine inconnue pour laquelle, il se prend d'affection et l'appelle Crusoé. Rejoint par sa sœur ainsi que Lewis Mowbray (l'homme à tout faire du manoir), ils doivent s'assurer de garder secret leur nouvel ami pour qu'il ne lui arrive rien, d'autant plus que ce dernier grandit à vue d'œil.

A Magistrate named Poulgrain takes his own life in an exhaust fume-filled car but in his death-throes, he releases the hand-brake whereupon his car rolls down the road all the way into the middle of a busy shopping centre where a pair of over-zealous detectives empty their firearms into his corpse. Disgraced, the two detectives, Ben Kinnear and his best mate Mike Paddock-both members of the much-hyped Zero Tolerance Unit (ZTU), are demoted back to uniform duties. Things get worse when they pay a visit to the Magistrate's widow Eleanor and accidentally burn her house down. Things become more complicated when Julie Bale, a journalist and a former police-officer and onetime partner of Kinnear's, is arrested on a charge of blackmailing the Magistrate. Kinnear starts to smell a rat when he discovers that a computer disc was found in the dead man's car but was tampered with by persons unknown. Kinnear's boss Gillespie questions the two detectives in charge of the Poulgrain case, Wicks & Pendlebury as to what happened to the original disc. Without warning, Wicks shoots dead Gillespie and Pendlebury and then deliberately wounds himself, re-arranging the crime scene to make it appear Pendlebury fired first.
