Il a rencontré sa future épouse, Fran Drescher, alors qu'ils allaient tous deux dans un cours de théâtre à la High School de Hillcrest.
Dans les années 1970, Peter déménage en Californie avec Fran. Ensemble, le couple a fait de nombreux petits films (Gorp en 1980 et d'autres).
Peter a écrit un spin-off de Madame est servie (1984) à la fin des années 1980, appelé Charmed Lives. Toujours déterminés, les deux ont coécrit le pilote de la série télévisée Une nounou d'enfer (1993) qui est devenue une série à succès. Ils se séparent en 1996 et divorcent officiellement en 1999.
Jacobson and Drescher divorced in 1999, after being separated for a number of years. The couple had no children. He came out as gay to her after their marriage ended. The couple developed the 2011 television series Happily Divorced for TV Land based on their lives.

Biographie
Jacobson and Fran Drescher married in 1978, when both were 21 years old. They moved to Los Angeles to launch their careers. In January 1985, two armed robbers broke into Drescher and Jacobson's Los Angeles home, where Jacobson was assaulted and forced to watch his wife's rape.Jacobson and Drescher divorced in 1999, after being separated for a number of years. The couple had no children. He came out as gay to her after their marriage ended. The couple developed the 2011 television series Happily Divorced for TV Land based on their lives.

Chaos reigns in the Catskills when Kavell and Bergman, two college students who spend their summers working in the dining hall at Camp Oskemo, an upstate New York summer camp where they're the senior waiters, return. Serving food to bratty children doesn't interest them nearly as much as trying to make it with the female counselors at the camp, among them the pretty but chaste Vicki and the beautiful and sexually liberated Evie. Kavell and Bergman also wage an annual war against the junior waiters with the help of deranged server Mad Grossman, but their real nemesis is Walrus Wallman, the camp owner who makes no secret of his dislike for the waiters. Over the course of one eventful summer, Kavell, Bergman, and their fellow food slingers dose the entire camp with amphetamines, taint the Kosher meals with pork, screen pornographic films during Parent's Weekend, run a tank through the campgrounds, and destroy the waiter's housing and most of what surrounds it.
