The subject being about a singer and his journey in the industry is something that only Gupte could've done justice to considering his association with music.It is based on your typical boy-next-door's journey to the top and his eventual fall from grace. But the premise is entirely different and so are many other elements associated with Mauli's journey which ranges from simpleton to contest winner to arrogant star to an addict to losing everything and coming back to square one forms the crux of the story.

Inspired by a true incident, the film starts off when an underprivileged man gets crushed under the weight of a politician's (Satish Kaushik). The film gets into the mood immediately after the death of this man. Be it the judge trying to get into the details of the man's death, be it the lawyers of the parties arguing the case, be it the sparking off of the communal riots. Since the deceased, who was a Hindu by birth, but had got converted to Islam, his death gives rise to a religious spark between two religious factions "the Hindus and Muslims" who want his body to be burnt and buried, respectively.

In a tribal village of Maharashtra is a school which is a part of ‘Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan’ (Education for All) run by the government.
