Subhendu Chatterjee (29 November 1936 – 5 July 2007) was an Indian actor of television and films in Bengali. A contemporary of late Bengali matinee idol Uttam Kumar and actor Soumitra Chatterjee, with whom he played second hero in many films, Chatterjee with age had graduated into character roles.
He was involved with amateur theatre under the tutelage of Jnanesh Mukherjee, a stalwart of Bengali theatre and films, and started trying his luck on the silver screen. He was involved with the IPTA. The elder of his two sons, is the Bengali actor Saswata Chatterjee and the other based in USA.

Biographie
His father was Shailendra Chattopadhay and mother Manimala Devi. In 1953, he was admitted into Calcutta Medical College. In 1960, he completed his M.B.B.S. and became a doctor. He worked in Civil Defence and later joined Kolkata Municipal Corporation.He was involved with amateur theatre under the tutelage of Jnanesh Mukherjee, a stalwart of Bengali theatre and films, and started trying his luck on the silver screen. He was involved with the IPTA. The elder of his two sons, is the Bengali actor Saswata Chatterjee and the other based in USA.

The film features the characters from Satyajit Ray's Aranyer Din Ratri, returning to the forest over thirty years later. Ashim, Sanjoy, Harinath and Aparna have grown old in this film; Shekhar has died. They set out on a journey to break off every link with civilisation for a few days. It is the story of a music lover named Kishore (Prosenjit Chatterjee), he belonged to a poor family. He wanted to learn music from a person named Shankar Maharaj (Soumitra Chatterjee), who stopped teaching music because his students ditched him after learning music and violated his instructions. His daughter Ontora (Rituparna Sengupta) helped Kishore to learn music by employing him as a maid in their house. They fell in love with each other. When Shankar Maharaj, came to know about the fact, he asked Kishore to break this relation as a token of his teaching. After sometime, the student who violated the instruction of Shankar Maharaj released an audio cassette & she hired Kishore as the music teacher. In the felicitation ceremony Shankar Maharaj was terribly humiliated a girl student, that he can't sing & knows nothing about songs. To prove her wrong, he started singing but fell ill in the midst of the song. Then Kishore came & completed the song & gave his required token as a teacher. Kishore & Shankar Maharaj's son become united again.

Dr. Ankhu(Dipankar Dey) a heart specialist has lost his wife and lives with their son, Sudhanshu(Prosenjit). Eventually Dr. Ankhu marries again and his new wife, Bonashri takes good care of Sudhanshu(Prosenjit), whom she likes very much. Sudhanshu falls in love with Joysree(Rituparna Sengupta), a charming girl, Joysree. as the relationship blossoms, Joysree sreveals the secret about her parentage. She is an orphan who lost her mother as a child. She was brought up by three eunuchs, who took very good care of her. Even after listening to all this, Sudhanshu decides to marry her and puts forward the proposal to his parents. His father does not agree to the match but his step mother supports him in his decision. In the mean time, Sudhanshu meets with an accident. At this time Joysree takes very good recovery and he recovers fast. Dr. Ankhu realises that Joysree is indeed the right match for his son and agrees to the marriage.

The movie revolves around an imaginary village called Haridevpur where Dr. Subhankar Sanyal (Ranjit Mullick) arrives as the head doctor of a Dharampur State Hospital, who is a specialist in each field. He tries to break the previous rules made in an agreement between the Super, (Manoj Mitra), and Dr. Sen, (Haradhan Bandopadhyay), because of which he faces many difficulties. By creating various hardships in his daily life, the Super and Dr. Sen try to remove him from the hospital. They succeed in this act by passing out his transfer to some other place. But they were confronted by the villagers who try to prevent him from leaving the village.

Chandra and Dipu fall in love. Chandra's elder sister Subhra is a hardworking honest girl who works hard to earn a living. She works in the company owned by Arjun. She meets Abhi and they like each other. Subhra is accused of dishonesty by Arjun for a fault she has not committed and she quits her job. Abhi starts ruining the empire brought up by Arjun, working so hard. He gives rise to an arch rival who swears to bring Abhi and Arjun down. The family is brought together again after a mishap which leads to Arjun's death, on getting shot.
