Putravati is a Marathi movie released on 19 April 1996. The movie has been produced by M.B.Joshi and directed by Bhaskar Jadhav. The plot of the movie is a glowing tribute to womanhood and a soul stirring saga about family values, hope and faith of a woman for whom any sacrifice is supreme.
Synopsis
Police Commissioner Krishnakant Deshmukh and his family are very religious and god fearing. His son Kapil is in love with Swati and despite their horoscopes not matching, he marries her, much to the annoyance of his parents. Days pass by but Swati can’t bear a child. Maya (Padmini Kolhapure) tente de se suicider lors de sa nuit de noce, mais son mari, Anand (Naseeruddin Shah), un médecin veuf, parvient à la sauver. Elle lui explique alors les raisons de son geste : elle a été contrainte de l'épouser, alors qu'elle souhaitait se marier avec un chanteur de rue, Prem Pratap. Leur histoire d'amour est racontée dans un flashback : Prem (Anil Kapoor) et son assistant, le jeune Chottu, venus à Mumbai pour faire carrière dans le cinéma, louent une chambre chez les parents de Maya. Maya tombe immédiatement amoureuse du chanteur, mais celui-ci, estimant n'être pas un parti digne d'elle, repousse ses avances. Il finit cependant par accepter de l'épouser, mais les parents de Maya les en empêchent. Le Dr Anand s'engage alors à retrouver Prem et à divorcer de Maya. Il lui demande cependant de rester avec lui pour sept jours, afin que sa mère, gravement malade, puisse mourir en ayant l'illusion que son fils a trouvé une épouse. À la mort de sa mère, il réunit Maya et Prem. Celui-ci refuse cependant de briser le mariage d'Anand et de Prem, en affirmant que cela serait contraire à la culture indienne.

A cruel Zamindar, the local landlord, commits atrocities on the villagers. Young Kumar watches helplessly his father being beaten-up by his goons at his behest. He grows to become a teacher. Ravi, a progressive schoolteacher in a small village helps fight an epidemic by getting his students inoculated. He incurs the wrath of local witchdoctor in the process. Raja Bhaiya (played by Mithun Chakraborty) and his friend Charan (played by Satish Kaushik) come to a city to make a living. A wealthy, but evil man named Zafar Khan (Kader Khan), has fallen in love with a girl named Salma (Waheeda Rahman) and wants to marry her, but she and her father do not let him. Zafar is arrested for various crimes and is imprisoned for 10 years, but when he is discharged, he sees that Salma is married to a good man named Aslam Khan (Satyendra Kapoor). Zafar Khan, wants to convince Salma to marry him but Salma refuses. Zafar murders Salma's father and plots his revenge by flooding the region in which Salma lives, nearly killing Aslam and injuring Salma, causing her to lose her memory. During this catastrophe, Salma is also separated from her young son, Iqbal (Amitabh Bachchan). Zafar abducts Salma and tells the world she is his wife. He also adopts an infant from an orphanage in Kanpur, a boy named Sunny (Rishi Kapoor), for Salma to raise on the advice of a psychiatrist. Meanwhile, Iqbal is reunited with his uncle, who has lost his wife and son in the flood. The uncle will raise Iqbal as his own, as they have no more family.
