The story follows Jayakanthan (Kunchacko Boban), son of Narendran, who comes from Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu to his parent's village Paruthippara in Kannur district, Kerala to reclaim his father's property. The film released in August 2001 coinciding with the festival of Onam. It was a critical and commercial success and made a theatrical run of about 100 days. Popular Indian actress Asin made her acting debut with this film.
Synopsis
The story is about Jayakanthan (Kunchacko Boban) who comes to claim his father Narendran's property in their native village. There he meets Vinodini (Samyuktha Varma) who is the panchayat president and a strict follower of the rules. Swathi (Asin) is Jayakanthan's cousin and her father Balakrishnan Nambiar (Janardhanan) is worried that Jayakanthan has come to marry her and inherit their property. Bhargavan (Sreenivasan) has usurped Narendran's land, but Jayakanthan is unaware of this and becomes his good friend. The remaining of the plot is about how things fall into place.Acteurs

Madhavan (Sreenivasan) is trying to get a job for his unemployed friend Sethu (Mohanlal). Nadodikattu opens by introducing the two protagonists, Ramdas/Dasan (Mohanlal) and Vijayan (Sreenivasan), who are employed as ill-paid peons. A commerce graduate, and proud of that, Dasan frequently vents his frustration in having to serve lesser qualified superiors and having to settle with lesser than what he feels he deserves in life. Vijayan is his less educated roommate and sole friend. Their relationship is one full of tension, with Dasan adopting a superior stance on the account of his education and good looks, which fiercely rattles Vijayan. Several comic situations later in the film borrow from this aspect of their characters. Dasan frequently bosses over Vijayan to do all the household chores.

Bhaskaran(Sreenivasan), the local village goldsmith is in love with Snehalatha(Urvashi), the daughter of P.V.Panicker(Innocent), the local astrologer. They are neighbors. Snehalatha asks for a gold necklace made of 10 pavans (sovereigns) as a symbol of Bhaskaran's love. Bhaskaran makes a necklace and hands it over to Snehalatha. The film is about Benny Chacko (Jayaram), a cable operator who dreams about earning wealth and getting rich. His friend (Nedumudi Venu) gives him the idea of getting married so he can use the dowry to fulfill his dreams. Benny marries Daisy (Kanika). To his dismay, he realizes that his father-in-law has not been able to arrange for the dowry, as agreed. This angers Benny but he decides to be patient and wait a few months before taking any further step. Premachandran (Mohanlal) is a carpenter who lives along with his father, Balan Master (Bharath Gopi), and works along with his friend, Manikandan (Innocent). They are now working on a house near the house of a rich landlord. Kanmani (Meera Jasmine), who was sold by her mother, works in that house as a servant and is ill-treated. Seethamma (KPAC Lalitha) lives along with her daughter, Kumari (Muthumani), who has a liking towards Premachandran. One night, Premachandran goes to his workplace to take his tools. He sees Kanmani leaving the house and is puzzled. He follows her. She was on the verge of committing suicide when Premachandran rescues her. He gives her shelter in one room in a building owned by Chettiyar (Oduvil Unnikrishnan), telling Chettiyar that his friend did not get the bus to go back home. Kanmani dresses up as a boy by the name of Velayuthan Kutty and soon starts working with Manikandan and Premachandran. Balan Master starts liking the disguised boy. One day, Premachandran tells Kanmani that he has planned to rescue her by sending her to Tamil Nadu to work in a banian company where Premachandran's friend is working. Kanmani refueses to go. Premachandran accidentally confesses to Manikandan that Velayuthan Kutty is actually the missing Kanmani. Manikandan has no peace and shouts out the truth in the middle of the night. Two policemen, accidentally hear this and take Premachandran and Kanmani into custody.
