The film released on 6 October 2011, to positive response from critics. It received numerous accolades including National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam and Kerala State Film Award for Best Film .
Synopsis
Indian Rupee is a satirical dig on contemporary youth who attempt to make quick money without sweating it out. Jayaprakash or JP (Prithviraj Sukumaran) is a small time real estate dealer based in Calicut, who dreams of making it big some day. JP is a school drop-out and in love with his cousin Beena (Rima Kallingal) who is a doctor, though her parents are not too keen about the marriage. JP along with his partner CH (Tini Tom) is scouting for a land deal. He is working under a senior agent Rayeen (Mamukoya) but wishes to break free as soon as possible. He believes that his fortunes are up for a change, when Achutha Menon (Thilakan), an old city dweller approaches him to sell off his land assets. The deal never happens, but Achutha Menon stays back with them and becomes a part of their life. Things start happening in a fantastic way for JP, soon after. JP manages to earn a decent fortune after some smart moves, but he learns some valuable lessons in the process, about the importance of earning money honestly in life.Acteurs

Bhadra (Kavya Madhavan) is a nurse who is living with her widowed mother, grandmother and twin sister Bhama, a medical student. Her older brother Achuthankutty (Jagathy Sreekumar) is a politician. Akbar Ahmed (Prithviraj) is a film director. Friends call him 'Akky'. After his highly successful first film, he becomes the most wanted director in the Malayalam film industry. Akky and his girl friend Devayani (Samvrutha Sunil) along with a group of friends all share a passion for cinema. Raghunandan is an ex-Bank of England employee who resigned his lucrative job because he was bored with the rather sedentary and mundane nature of his work. Having lived in different parts of the world as a bank employee, he chose journalism as his next career and worked in different cities in India. The story begins with the fall of Mangalasherry Neelakantan's (Mohanlal) son Karthikeyan (Mohanlal), as he ventures out to make money which ultimately makes him a liquor baron. The relationship between Neelakantan and Karthikeyan deteriorates, as the father does not approve of his son's money-making methods. Mundakkal Shekharan (Napoleon) comes into the picture again after spending a term in prison for killing one of Neelakantan's friends. He decides to finish the Mangalasherry family by confiscating the house which was kept as collateral for Bhanumathi's (Revathy) treatment. Bhanumathi passes away and Karthikeyan is now bent on taking revenge. Neelakantan loses his home and Karthikeyan ventures out in an attempt to reclaim his ancestral home. In the meantime, Karthikeyan abducts Shekharan's daughter Janaki (Vasundhara Das) in an attempt to blackmail him (Shekharan), during which they fall in love with each other. The remainder of the movie is about how Karthikeyan manages to get his ancestral home back while Shekharan's nephew Mundakkal Rajendran (Vijayaraghavan) makes attempts to kill Karthikeyan, but instead neelakandan gets killed and karthikeyan ventures out to kill Mundackal shekharan.

The movie has Navya Nair as Yamuna who is preparing for the big day in her life that is for her marriage. In comes a letter from her psychiatrist Ravi Varman (Suresh Gopi), who had treated her for schizophrenic disorder, three years ago. Ravi Varman now wants to meet her, as she is soon to witness some critical of the circumstances. Ravi Varman, according to his unsatisfied wife Jyothi (Shweta Menon), is more like a mentally challenged person than most of his patients, treating only one patient at a time, that too in an alien hill bungalow. Though the mental issues and associated unsettling hallucinations faced by Yamuna are confusing, Ravi Varman finds the root causes of continuous ‘vulture episodes’ through his travels into the subconscious mind and starts his treatments, finally to get the girl disowned by even her parents.
