The film stars Jai, Shiva, Premji Amaran, Aravind Akash, Nithin Sathya and newcomers Ajay Raj, Ranjith, Vijay Vasanth, Prasanna, Inigo, Karthik and Arun in the lead along with Vijayalakshmi, daughter of National Film Award-winning director Agathiyan, and Kristine Zedek, making their acting debut as well. The film was produced by S. P. B. Charan along with J. K. Saravana, a Singapore-based award-winning producer. The film's score and soundtrack were composed by Premji Amaran and Yuvan Shankar Raja, respectively.
The film is based on street cricket played in India, focussing on various themes as friendship, love and rivalry in a suburban area. Following its theatrical release on 27 April 2007, it received critical acclaim and emerged a surprise sleeper hit, going on to achieve cult status in the subsequent years and is often cited as one of the first independent Tamil films. The film's title is derived from the pincode for Mandaveli, a suburb of Chennai, where the story takes place. The success of the film gained the relatively unknown actors — Shiva, Premji Amaren, Jai and Nithin Sathya, newcomers Vijayalakshmi, Vijay Vasanth and the director Venkat Prabhu popularity. Upon release, the film was dubbed into Telugu and released as Kodithe Kottalira. This film was also remade in Sri Lanka as Super Six and it is the highest budgeted film made so far in the Cinema of Sri Lanka. The film was also remade in Kannada as Bangalore 560023.
Synopsis
The story revolves around two local cricket league teams that compete against each other in local matches and consider each other as sworn enemies. Royapuram Rockers are on top of the chain and keep bashing Sharks year after year. The heroes of the movie are the Sharks team.Acteurs

The plot begins in a remote village in Tamil Nadu named Pannaipuram (the birthplace of director Venkat Prabhu). Samikannu/Sami (Premji), son of a karagattam artist, Vinayakam/Vinay (Jai), son of a military man, and Ramarajan/Ram (Vaibhav Reddy), son of the local bigwig and the village Casanova, are three rebellious youths who try various attempts to flee their village and see the outside world but are usually caught and punished by the conservative elders. After being punished harshly, they attempt one last escape and succeed. The trio runs away to the town of Madurai, hoping to stay with Vinayakam's friend Azhagar.

The film starts with the murder of ex-commissioner by an escaped prisoner Kamal Ekambaram (Riyaz Khan). The story then shifts to Masilamani aka Massu (Suriya) and his friend Jet Li (Premgi Amaren) who are small-time con artists. Massu falls for Manini (Nayantara) and they subsequently fall in love. While trying to escape after a heist gone wrong, Massu and Jet meet with a car accident, post which Massu starts seeing dead people, with whom he can communicate. Jet had died in the accident and is now a ghost, too. Massu forms a group of loitering ghosts to earn money by performing fake exorcisms and extorting money from scared rich people, while promising the ghosts that he would fulfill their last wishes in return. Meanwhile, Manini who thought Massu was working in a finance company gets to know about the fake exorcisms and leaves him in a heist.

Karan (Zain Khan) is a thirteen-year-old orphan boy who lives in a dilapidated orphanage owned by a stern, uncouth warden, John "Hitler" Kakkad (Rajesh Khera). Karan has two dreams: one is to have parents and the other is to be a big cricketer. His inspiration is Kapil Dev since he has been brought up on the motivating stories of India's '83 World Cup win by the orphanage caretaker, Bholu Dada (Susheel Parasher) who is a loving and a gentle old man. Karan's best friend in the orphanage is Daboo (Deeptiman Chadhury) who often lends his gentle ears to the aspirations which Karan lives on. His dreams take a turn when one day, he lays his hands on an old cricket bat which Karan is convinced is the bat that Kapil Dev used to win the '83 World Cup; for him, the bat becomes a magic bat. One day by a stroke of luck, the coach of the Indian cricket team spots Karan playing cricket and is highly impressed by his batting skill. At that point in town, the Indian National Cricket Team have been going through a "rough patch". Karan and his magical bat are inducted into the Indian cricket team as the opening batsman along with the captain, Varun (Rahul Bose). When the little boy marches onto the pitch and wins the match for India Karan soon becomes the nation's heartthrob. Although he was formerly rejected by adopting couples, he is now the most sought after kid in the country. However, Raghav (Raj Bhansali), the orphanage bully, hates him and feels that if Karan did not have the magic bat he would have never made it to the cricket team. Raghav now wants the magic bat at any cost. Karan and Varun develop a strong emotional bond deeper than fellow cricketers. Karan has no parents and Varun has parents, but is estranged with his father and does not want to accept him. Karan strongly believes that parents are the best gift endowed by God and succeeds in uniting Varun with his father. At the final 5th one day match between India and Pakistan, events spiral out of control and Karan's magic bat is destroyed by Raghav. Karan is a nervous wreck, but Varun makes him realize that faith in oneself counts beyond anything else. With Karan's help, India wins the match. After the match, Karan decides to stop playing and rejoin the team when he is older. Varun and his girlfriend, Malini (Meera Vasudevan) decide to adopt Karan.

Meera Achrekar lives a middle-classed lifestyle in a Shivaji Park Chawl, along with her widowed mother; brother Manoj, his wife, Neelima, and their son, Mayank. Dr. Satyajit Chavan is the head doctor at a civil hospital in Dehli. Satyajit is well regarded and respected, but he has terrible bedside manners and is generally rude to everyone. His staff of doctors, most of whom are young interns fresh out of medical school, inquire about his bedside manner. He curtly informs them that his job is to treat patients and that beds must be allocated to the ones who are most likely to survive and get better. We discover that government hospitals (especially in large cities like Mumbai) are severely limited in bed space and attract the worst stricken patients in the city. These draconian conditions have shaped Satyajit and his views on treatment.
