CR No: 89 (u/s 323,324,379 IPC, section 4, r/w 25(1)(b) of arms act 1959), also known as CR No: 89 or Crime No. 89, is a Malayalam film written and directed by Sudevan. The film focuses on the moral dilemmas one faces in life. It won numerous awards including the NETPAC Award for Best Malayalam Film at the 18th International Film Festival of Kerala and the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film. Sudevan won the G. Aravindan Award for Best Debut Director. Actor Ashok Kumar won the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor. The film was produced by Pace Trust and was funded mainly through contributions from various friends and admirers of Sudevan's earlier films from around the world.

The story revolves around Lucknow-based Nawabzaada Aslam (Raj Babbar) lives a wealthy lifestyle along with his dad, Bakar and mom. He writes poem under the pen name of Raj Lakhnavi and is a close friend of Iqbal. One day he meets and falls in love with Salma Banarasi (Salma Agha), a banarasi-based courtesan. When his parents arranged his marriage with his foreign-returned cousin Mumtaz (Shoma Anand), he informs them that he loves salma and incurs their displeasure so much so that his dad shoots him, and he gets hospitalized. Balwant Roy (Pradeep Kumar) is a big industrialist. His daughter Uma (Neena Gupta) is married to Sunderlal's (Prem Chopra's) elder son Raghuveer (Shakti Kapoor). Sunderlal is the managing director of Roy Group of Industries. Balwant Roy's only son, Amar—nickname Munna (Prosenjit) loves his sister very much. Sunderlal is a greedy character whose intends to hush up the property of Balwant Roy and kill Munna. He plots a conspiracy to finish off Munna.
