The story is of how a woman fights against society for justice. The film is considered to be the best woman centric film ever made in Bollywood along with Mother India.
Besides being critically acclaimed, the film became the sixth highest grossing of the year and was declared a 'hit' at the Indian box office. Damini – Lightning is mostly remembered for Meenakshi Sheshadri's career best performance, the role that became her identity and it is also memorable for Sunny Deol's role as an advocate and gained him a Filmfare as well as National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for 1993. It strengthened his Bollywood he-man image. The film was a milestone in the careers of Meenakshi Sheshadri, Sunny Deol and Amrish Puri who gave some great hits like Ghayal and Ghatak: Lethal together. Aamir Khan acted in a very special appearance in the stage show dance song. Damini – Lightning was remade into Oriya as Nari Nuhne Tu Narayani starring Sidharth and Rachana. It was remade into Tamil as Priyanka starring Revathi as the titular character. Box Office India declared the film Hit.
Synopsis
Shekhar Gupta (Rishi Kapoor), a rich businessman, falls in love at first sight with Damini (Meenakshi Sheshadri). They get married and Damini moves into his palatial bungalow. One day, she witnesses Shekhar's younger brother, Rakesh, raping the maid-servant and rushes to tell Shekhar. Shekhar rushes over to prevent the sexual assault but is too late. The Gupta family conspire to cover up this shameful incident. But Damini decides to inform the police. The matter is taken up in court and Damini is asked to testify. Damini is portrayed as a mentally unstable person and confined in a mental institution for two weeks by a judicial order. Unable to bear the mental torture in the institution, she escapes and runs into a down-and-out alcoholic lawyer, Govind (Sunny Deol), who has the rape case re-opened. The maid-servant dies in hospital and the police write her death off as a suicide. But Govind is able to prove otherwise. It is up to Damini, Govind and Shekhar to provide justice to the victimised girl.Acteurs

Kashi (Sunny Deol) is a kind-hearted wrestler and the dutiful son of Shambhu Nath (Amrish Puri) living in Banaras. Shambhu Nath who was a freedom fighter awarded with Tambra Patra, is an honourable and respectable man in town. Kashi comes to Mumbai with his father for his medical treatment of throat and stays with his brother Shiv Nath (K. K. Raina). Kashi meets Gauri (Meenakshi Seshadri) and starts liking her. He learns that the colony is being terrorized by a tyrannical gangster named Katya (Danny Denzongpa) along with his other six brothers. Before Kashi's arrival, a resident named Sachdev (Om Puri) tries to initiate revolt against Katya but gets ruthlessly killed by him, thereby making Malti (Ila Arun), wife of Sachdev, go mad. Katya and his brothers become enemy with Kashi when he beats up their goons when they were beating up Malti. Shambhu Nath is later diagnosed with throat cancer and has only a few days to live.

Pooja (Shabana Azmi), who grew up as an orphan girl and always dreamt of owning a house, becomes insecure when she finds out that she and her husband, Inder (Kulbhushan Kharbanda), have to leave the apartment they rent. She is helped by Raj (Raj Kiran) to surpass the difficulties of life as a single person, to find a job and to rely morally on herself. Raj and Pooja become good friends. Gradually, Kavita's mental instability deepens her fears of insecurity, even after Inder requests Pooja to sign the divorce papers.

Lee Sang Hyeon vit seul avec sa fille, Su Jin, collégienne, depuis le décès de sa femme, emportée par un cancer. Il passe ses journées à travailler à l'usine - et parfois à boire - sans consacrer trop de temps à sa fille qu'il chérit pourtant. Un soir, Su Jin doit rentrer toute seule de la gare car son père travaille tard, encore une fois. Cependant, alors qu'elle marche sous la pluie sur le chemin du retour, la jeune fille se fait enlever, violer et finalement assassiner par un groupe de lycéens. De retour chez lui, Sang Hyeon découvre que sa fille n'est pas rentrée mais il la croit chez des amis. Sa vie bascule le jour où la police l'appelle pour venir identifier le corps de sa fille. D'abord incrédule puis désemparé face à son impuissance pour faire avancer l'affaire, Sang Hyeon va décider de faire justice lui-même et punir les assassins de sa fille, quitte à devenir lui-même fugitif.
