East Side Kids is a 1940 film and the first in the East Side Kids film series. It is the only one not to star any of the original six Dead End Kids.

Synopsis

Après avoir vécu toute sa chilhood dans la rue, un jeune garçon remarque rapidement que le crime ne paie pas et pourquoi il décide thats de devenir un agent de police. Un jour, l'un de ses meilleurs amis aller en prison pour un assassiner qu'il n'a pas commis. Immédiatement le policier essaie de son mieux pour le libérer et de prouver son innocence.

Hal Donovan gets into a fight with ex-heavyweight champion Slug Cassidy at a lumber camp in the north woods. Slug takes a bad beating and he and his trainer, Spider, urge Hal to become a professional boxer. Soon, "Chopper" Hal proves to be a natural and is beating all comers. He meets Kay Conrad, who is struggling to support her father, an ex-fighter invalided for life in the ring, and her young brother Dickie. Kay hates everything connected to the sport, and Hal keeps her ignorant of his profession. But Slug and Spider tell the Conrads of Hal's identity as "Chopper" Hal, and Kay breaks off the engagement while Hal takes to the open road. Hal, now a tramp, picks up odd jobs where he can find them and one of them leads him to a training camp where he meets Slug and Spider with their new fighter Lion Lee. He also meets Kay and learns that her father is in desperate need of money. He accepts Spider's offer to fight Lee, on the condition that he take a dive in the third round. Kay learns of this and begs Hal to fight an honest fight if he is determined to fight. He tells Spider that he'll fight Lee on honest terms and the match is on.

Le Dr Brooks s'est perdu dans la jungle et vit aux côtés de Tarzan. Une expédition de secours conduite par Mary Brooks, la fille du docteur et par Bob Hall, cherche à le retrouver. Dans l'expédition se sont intégrés deux personnages aux intentions vénales, Jeff et Nick; la recherche du professeur leur importe peu, mais la découverte d'émeraudes d'une part et la capture de Tarzan d'autre part semble les intéresser. Le Dr Brooks supposant que sa fille est à sa recherche confie à Tarzan une photo de sa fille et une lettre. Tarzan retrouve la trace de Mary Brooks et la sauve des crocodiles alors qu'elle se baignait dans une rivière. Tarzan guide l'expédition vers la baraque du Dr Brooks, mais il n'y est plus. On apprend par la suite qu'il est prisonnier d'une civilisation secrète, le temple de Zor. Les hommes pénètrent dans le temple et Jeff a le temps de voler une émeraude, mais ils sont faits prisonniers et offerts en sacrifice aux lions. Tarzan les délivre. Une chasse à l'homme commence, les hommes sont à nouveau fait prisonniers, Brooks propose au grand prêtre de lui donner la carte des lieux en échange de leur liberté. Jeff et Nick sont morts durant ces péripéties et quand l'expédition va pour repartir en Angleterre, Mary Brook choisit de rester avec Tarzan.

It is a bleak and windy night when Jimmy Kelly (Wallace Ford) and Marjorie Burns (Barbara Pepper) check into the Red Rock Tavern with plans to marry as soon as possible. Everyone in the tavern is shocked when a wild dog breaks in through an open window, attacks and kills two of the guests. When they discover that the dog is not the real killer all of the guests begin to panic and suddenly find themselves trapped inside the tavern by locked doors and barred windows. Everyone frantically tries to determine who among them is the killer before another one of them is murdered.

Jim Madden, a Texas Ranger, is gunned down while investigating the murder of a local rancher. His younger brother, Larry, vows to track down the suspected killer, another rancher named Joan Stanton. While looking into the murders, he stumbles on a battle between Stanton, and a group of men working for another rancher, Frank Sanderson. Rescuing Stanton from the altercation, he keeps his identity as a Ranger secret, while attempting to learn the truth of what is going on. Through talks with Stanton, Madden learns that Sanderson has been setting her up for both the murder of the other rancher, and Jim's death.
