This story is about Prem, Puja, Pratap and Ranjit. Prem loves Puja very much and wants to marry her. He tells Puja everything and orders her to leave Prem forever. Puja leaves Prem and marries Pratap. Pratap is a famous businessman and he loves Puja very much. Ranima, Pratap's mother is a patient of cardiac problems and dotes on Puja. During their honeymoon in Switzerland Pratap dies in an accident. Puja doesn't reveal the news to Ranima. One day during Durga Puja, Puja suddenly sees Pratap who in reality is an imposter - Ranjit. Ranjit kills Ranima and when Puja sees the incident she shoots at Ranjit, but unfortunately the bullet goes into Mamababu's chest and he succumbs. Ranjit calls the police and tells them that Puja has killed Ranima and Mamababu. The police arrest Puja. Prem fights the case for Puja and in court Prem proves that Ranjit is the murderer. Then police arrest Ranjit while Prem and Puja ring the wedding bells.

Vishnupratap Singh (Vikram Gokhale) is celebrating his 60th birthday in his village with his wife (Farida Jalal). At the behest of his wife, Vishnu Pratap calls his estranged son's family from Bombay for the event. Their grandson, Abhay (Fardeen Khan), arrives with his mother and sister to the village, and is initially greeted with animosity. However, he shows a kind and caring side that wins the affections of his family members. He also starts to become friendly with Mangala (Richa Pallod), and the two start playing pranks and teasing each other, which eventually leads to them falling in love. Abhay ends up getting into a fight with the family of Virendra Pratap (Govind Namdeo), specifically his nephew, Rudra Pratap (Sharad Kapoor). Pinky (Kajol), charmante jeune fille, et Bunty (Atul Agnihotri), jeune homme plein de vie, sont deux étudiants insouciants. Dès leur rencontre, ils tombent éperdument amoureux l'un de l'autre et envisagent de se marier. Mais leurs familles ne les approuvent pas : en effet, le mariage de Bunty a été arrangé avec Shobha (Ayesha Jhulka), la fille du meilleur ami de ses parents et pareillement, Pinky a été promise par son père (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) à Arjun (Jackie Shroff), officier de police digne de confiance. Pinky et Bunty décident de s'enfuir pour se marier et se rendent chez une tante (Aruna Irani) pour qu'elle les conseille. Celle-ci se rend compte que les sentiments éprouvés par les deux jeunes gens ne sont pas très sincères et juge que leur union serait une erreur. Aussi fait-elle semblant de les approuver mais les guide dans le même sens que leurs familles : elle leur suggère de se marier selon les vœux de leurs parents mais en leur laissant croire qu'ils pourront divorcer afin de se retrouver. Pinky et Bunty suivent ses conseils puis mettent tout en œuvre pour rendre leurs vies conjugales infernales. Leur comédie semble fonctionner jusqu'à ce qu'ils découvrent que Shobha et Arjun se rencontrent en cachette.

Rohan Khanna (Akshaye Khanna) is a jobless graduate living with his grandfather (Alok Nath) and his mother (Moushumi Chatterjee). Rohan has been tirelessly looking for a decent job without success. One day, Rohan's neighbour, Ranjit arrives. He lives in America, owns a motel, a perfect living and is married to an American woman. He wishes to keep his parents in America to live in peace. Anirudh (Nana Patekar) is released from a facility treating patients with mental ailments. Anirudh also happens to be an exceptional artist and does portraits of new people he meets. As he struggles with adjusting with the "normal" world, he encounters Sunita (Manisha Koirala), an escort and Ranjan (Jackie Shroff), the son of a renowned politician. Ranjan, is madly in love with Sunita but Sunita does not feel the same way about him. Anirudh is the only person to see beyond Sunita's seemingly comfortable and affluent existence and knows that deep down she is extremely sad and alone. They develop a special bond of friendship despite their vastly different personalities and backgrounds. Anirudh also becomes good friends with Ranjan. Ranjan is a good-hearted but egotistical man who cannot bear even the thought of failure in any aspect of his life.
