It was produced by Erna Kmínková, Marta Sichová, Jirí Vanek, and animated by Vlasta Pospísilová.
Synopsis
In the film, the poem by Lewis Carroll is read and a wardrobe is shown moving through a forest. The wardrobe contains a strange playroom inside that is watched over by an old man in a portrait. The film switches between images of dolls, toys in a nursery, and paper planes to images of dismembered dolls, maggot-infested vines, and a black cat knocking things over. The ending of the film contains an ink blob escaping from an occurring maze, freeing itself from life's constraints. It then defaces the image of the old man (the authority figure) and flees out of the window.Commentaires

A knife chops two slices off a chunk of fresh meat. The first slice, using a nearby spoon as a hand mirror, admires itself. Similar admiration is expressed by the second slice, which slaps the first slice on its 'rear', causing it to cry out and retreat coyly behind a tea-towel. The second slice switches on the radio, and persuades its companion to dance 'cheek to cheek' to the sound of an old 1920s recording. One slice jumps into a plate of flour and teasingly 'splashes' the other. Soon, the two slices are writhing ecstatically in the flour. Their passion is short-lived, however, as almost immediately afterwards they are skewered and fried.

Film de semi animation complètement déjanté que nous propose Jan Švankmajer. On nous y présente un homme qui fait d’étranges rêves et qui consultera une psychanalyste pour tenter de les interpréter. Ces rêves lui permettent de côtoyer un homme qui lui ressemble, mais en plus jeune, et une jeune femme qu’il aimerait bien rencontrer dans le monde réel. D’ailleurs, à un certain point, le rêve et la réalité ne se confondent-ils pas? Il y a aussi cette maladie d’acheter des billets de loterie en pensant qu’il va gagner une fortune..

A man (apparently a secret agent or terrorist of some sort) embarks on an unspecified mission to infiltrate an old, decaying, abandoned house that rests in a lonely Czech countryside. Making sure not to be spotted by others, the protagonist spends six days inside the house, where he quietly and voyeuristically witnesses a series of bizarre events enacted by various living, antiquated objects (e.g. furniture, meat, and clay) that dwell within the rooms of the house. On Monday, a box full of candies reveal themselves to be rusty nails and screws before placing themselves on the keys of a typewriter; On Tuesday, a cow tongue licks a drawer full of dishes clean before climbing into a meat grinder and being made into tiny scrolls; On Wednesday, a clockwork toy chicken breaks free of its tether and reaches a plate full of corn kernels only to be buried under a pile of brown clay; On Thursday, a desk releases the pigeons that were trapped in its drawer only for them to be plucked by an unseen force, after which a chair tries to use the pigeons' feathers to fly only to crash and shatter on the floor. On Friday, a hose emerges from the buttonhole of a suit jacket and drinks all the water from a flower vase, causing the flowers in the vase to combust, and then urinates the water onto the floor; On Saturday, a pair of dentures bind a cabinet full of pigs' feet with tough wire.
