This film is based on a relationship which begins through an internet chatroom and takes a turn after the protagonist has second thoughts about the relationship. The film featured newcomer Kunal Singh and Sonali Bendre in the lead roles, while Nassar, Manivannan, Goundamani and Chinni Jayanth appeared in supporting roles. The film produced by A.M. Ratnam, had music composed by A. R. Rahman and cinematography by P. C. Sriram. The film was released in July 1999 and became a huge commercial success.
The film was also dubbed in Telugu as Premikula Roju, while the producer reshot a few new scenes and cast regional actors before dubbing it in Hindi as Dil Hi Dil Mein.
Synopsis
Raja (Kunal) is from a poor family. Raja's dad is violent and an alcoholic. He spends the family's income on alcohol. Raja's family struggles to work hard everyday. Raja's mom requests him to move to Mumbai to start a new life. Raja approves his mom's request and moves to Mumbai to attend Ramachandra College.Acteurs

In the city of Chennai traditional rivalry has always existed between the students of Pachaiyappas and Loyola colleges respectively. Karthik (Vineeth) is poor and an orphan, who studies in Pachaiyappa's College, lives in a rented room, travels by the bus, hangs out with a number of friends, and is the Captain of his football team. He is also a good poet and daydreams about his dream girl. Arun (Abbas), on the other hand, comes from a rich and wealthy family, studies in Loyola College, drives his own car, hangs out with number of friends, and is also the Captain of his football team. In a nasty intercollege riot Arun saves Karthik's life. So in return Karthik lets Arun win in a soccer game because he thinks Arun can't take losses easily.

Shekhar (Arvind Swamy) est le fils de parents hindous traditionnels dans un village côtier du Tamil Nadu. Étudiant en journalisme à Bombay, Shekhar rentre régulièrement à la maison pour rendre visite à sa famille. Au cours de l'un de ses voyages, il rencontre Shaila Banu (Manisha Koirala). Timide, Shaila fuit Shekhar, mais les efforts constants de Shekhar pour la séduire finissent par être couronnés de succès et elle en tombe amoureuse. Les deux pères refusent l'idée d'un mariage. Le père de Shekhar lui ordonne de trouver une autre compagne et le père de Shaila veut la marier au plus vite avec un musulman. Le père de Shekhar menace son fils de ne plus jamais lui adresser la parole s'il épouse cette musulmane. Sous le coup de la colère, Shekhar repart pour Bombay. Suivent plusieurs semaines de relation épistolaire entre Shekhar et Shaila qui finit par s'enfuir de la maison pour rejoindre Shekhar à Bombay où ils se marient en hâte.

Raja (Karthik) feels stifled under his strict father Col. Chandrasekhar (Jaiganesh) and when his father picks a girl he doesn't like for him to marry, it is the last straw and he runs away to Ooty. There he teams up with Vasu (Goundamani) and they come up with an ill-advised plan to kidnap Indu (Rambha), the daughter of Vishwanathan (Manivannan). Vishwanathan is in fact Col. Chandrasekhar's friend and it is Indu that Raja was supposed to marry. But Vishwanathan now mistakes Vasu to be his friend's son and takes him under his wing while Raja is hired to be his driver.

Vasanth (Vijay) is a son of a wealthy businessman and grows up with a possessive attitude. This is shown in one scene in a gift shop where he breaks a gift he likes solely because it had already been bought by someone else. He pays the owner to cover the damages, but he responds with a tagline - "If I can't get it, nobody can". He happens to visit Rajasthan, where he meets Priya (Kausalya) and falls in love immediately. Priya is injured in an accident and Vasanth's friend (Vasanth Kumar) rescues her by donating blood. Being unconscious, Priya doesn't know the face of her savior, only the name "Vasanth Kumar".
