Crazy Mohan (born 16 October 1949 as Mohan Rangachari) is a Tamil comedy actor, script writer and playwright. An engineer by profession, Mohan started writing plays and dramas for stage and established his own drama troupe called Crazy Creations in 1979. In addition to dramas and tele-serials, he has worked as a dialogue writer on a number of comedy films. He has written over 30 plays, worked on over 40 films and played cameo roles in each of these films, and written 100 short stories.

Mohan (Sathya) lives in Chennai. His two roommates, Anthony (Vignesh Vijayakumar) and Radhakrishnan (Sanjay Bharathi) are from less fortunate backgrounds. Despite their differences, they are best friends. One day, Mohan borrows a book from the Chennai Literary Society library for his television reporter girlfriend, Divya (Rakul Preet Singh). He then finds a note in the book that leads him to a cemetery. All the graves painted blue have thousands of bank notes instead of dead bodies. Mohan shares this news with his roommates and they decide to share the cash in order to solve their families' financial problems.

Rajinikanth finds himself to be an orphan. He travels from his village to Madras. There he meets Janakaraj, who gives him a job. The film starts in a courtroom where a Brahmin woman Janaki (Meena) is fighting for divorce from her husband Pandian (Kamal Haasan). She offers various reasons for wanting a divorce. She has married Pandian against the wishes of her rich father Vishwanathan Iyer (Gemini Ganesan). But she isn't able to come to terms with living in Pandian's small house without amenities. Pandian is an assistant dance director with a modest income and is not able to spend much time with the family. All this accumulates and Janaki decides to apply for divorce, which is granted. The court orders that Pandian can meet his daughter Barathi, once a week and this is his only solace. His daughter, however, loves him a lot and doesn't like the arrangement.
