Kasethan Kadavulada (English: Money is God) is a 1972 Tamil language comedy film directed by Chitralaya Gopu who made his directorial debut. The film stars Muthuraman, Thengai Srinivasan, Srikanth and Lakshmi in the lead roles and Manorama and Venniradai Moorthy in supporting roles. The film was a low-budgeted film of the time and is perhaps best known for Thengai Srinivasan dressing up as a fake saint, making a lot of situational comedies along with it.

Synopsis

Parvathi (Manorama) is an extremely domineering second wife to Sivaswamy (Vennira Aadai Moorthy) and controls all his money treating him with scorn and disdain. When Sivaswamy's son Ramu (Muthuraman), son of his first wife, requires a sum of Rs. 3000 for his Sister's husband, she refuses instantly. With plenty of worry, Ramu and his cousin Shekar hatch a plot with Appaswamy (Thengai Sreenivasan) who pretends to be a fake swamiji in order to get to her money safe and steal a sum of Rs. 50,000.

Vijay (Rajnikanth), a merchant navy officer, comes home on leave to meet his sister Selvi (Saritha) and her husband Vishwanthan (Delhi Ganesh) but finds them missing. In his search for them, he bumps into Chitra (Radha) who falls in love with him. With Chitra's help, Vijay is able to find Selvi, but is shocked when he learns that her husband has vanished and she has stopped speaking. Unable to make Selvi speak but determined to resolve her troubles, Vijay with the help of his friend Vidyasagar (Y.G. Mahendran) discovers that Vishwanathan had testified in court against a dangerous criminal and is being held hostage by his associates. Vijay decides to disguise himself as a smuggler and gets into the underworld. Whether he is able to retrieve Vishwanathan and bring normalcy to Selvi's life forms the rest of the story.

Billa (Rajinikanth) est un dangereux parrain. Mookaiyah (Rajinikanth) and his sister Bairavi (Geetha) are the children of a drunkard. They are separated after Bhairavi gets lost in an accident. Following this, Mookaiyah becomes a servant of a local landlord (Sreekanth). Mookaiyah is a loyal servant and does whatever is asked of him. The landlord, Rajalingam (Sreekanth), forces Mookaiyah to abduct a young girl from a neighboring village, Bhagyam (Geetha). Rajalingam rapes her in the absence of Mookaiyah. Maanikam, Bhagyam's adopted brother, finds to know about the incident. When the police investigate Maanikam, Mookaiyah discovers that Bhagyam is his long-lost sister (Bairavi). Then he immediately approaches Rajalingam and forces him to marry Bairavi; he was not ready to accept it at first but after a while he promises to Mookaiyah that he will marry Bairavi. As Mookaiyah was the person who abducted Bairavi, the police suspect that he is the culprit, comes to Rajalingam's house to know about Mookaiyah. Rajalingam also alleges to Police that Mookaiyah only raped Bairavi. The police therefore arrest Mookaiyah, based on the statement of Rajalingam. Meanwhile, Rajalingam plans to kill Bairavi when she was in an unconscious state in hospital. If Bairavi become conscious and gives a statement to the police then he will definitely be prone to punishment, so he kills her. After knowing about his adopted sister's murder, Maanikam vows to take revenge on Mookaiyah, whom he believes to be responsible for Bairavi's death. Meanwhile, Mookaiyah escapes from jail knowing about the incident. He then sets out to kill the landlord in revenge for his sister's death.

Sreekanth is a famous psychiatrist and has earned much praise from his mentor and people in the town. He is in love with Venniradai Nirmala. One day he is assigned a task to cure a mentally unstable women (Jayalalitha) who lives in Ooty. Srikanth informs about this to her lover and request her to wait for him until he finishes this case. Srikanth promises he will return for her and sets out to Ooty. On arriving, he is been welcomed by Jayalalaitha's parents who are very much distressed with their daughter's condition. Srikanth questions them about her past but they conceal initially as it might have a severe consequence on her future. Upon reiteration that knowing her past will be very useful for him to cure her, Jayalalitha parents reveal her awful past. Jayalalitha at a very young age got married and within hours, the couple meet with an accident and her spouse dies. Due to the aftermath of the accident and upon learning her husband's death, Jayalalitha loses her mental stability. As days pass by, Srikanth cures her for good. Her parents are happy on learning that Jayalalitha has completely forgotten her past to begin a new life. Jayalalitha begins to fall in love with Srikanth but is reluctant to profess her love to him, instead she tells her parents. Srikanth upon learning this fears that she might go back to her old condition if she learns that a girl is awaiting him. Srikanth having no courage, informs about this to Jayalalitha's parents. Srikanth marries Venniradai Nirmala and Jayalalitha on the other hand tells she indeed remembers her past and wears a white saree (tradition where in women wears a white saree after her spouse death) and convinces herself that this her destiny.
