Akhil Ruwanwalla, (Kamal Addararachchi) a young photographer meets beautiful Deepthi (Sangeetha Weeraratne) in a pub. They become friends and later the friendship turns into love. Meanwhile, Akhil gets beaten by a set of gangsters and his camera is also stolen. It is revealed that the camera consisted of Deepthi's photos, which were taken by Akhil. Roni Kalupahana,(Hemasiri Liyanage) Akhil 's roommate is a newspaper editor, who is keen to write about truth, even if that means death for him. He writes about Akhil's incident as well and reveals information about groups who are behind such acts. Shocking his friends, he is soon murdered by the same groups. Anil and Deepthi's love affair grows and Akhil is enthusiastic about marrying her, although she is not. Akhil decides to open a new studio with his friend Jagath Wickremasinghe (Jayalath Manoratne) and he is financially assisted by Deepthi. On the day of the opening ceremony of this studio, Police comes to meet Akhil with a set of photos. He is told to identify the faces, of those whom he has encountered before. In the set of photos, he sees Dabare's (Tony Ranasinghe) photo, that is the leader of the gang who beat him up, while ago, as well as surprisingly Deepthi's photo. Unable to comprehend this, and to avoid Deepthi from being caught to the police for whatever crime she had committed, Akhil lies to the police, saying that he does not know any. But, the vigilant Police is too quick to determine that the Camera, that Deepthi had gifted Akhil, few minutes ago, was a stolen one. Akhil is about to be taken to the Police, when Deepthi discloses everything about her connections with the Dabare gang and her job as a female Pickpocket. Both, Akhil and Deepthi are taken to the Police, immediately. Akhil is free to go, but Deepthi is send to jail for two long years. Amidst all this, Akhil is not dejected as he still feels that he loves Deepthi, the same way.

Sachein (Vijay) is a carefree and happy go lucky guy college student, who comes across the beautiful Shalini (Genelia D'Souza) on college campus and falls deeply in love with her but she doesn't love him. Arnold aka Ayyasamy (Vadivelu) has repeated the same class every year for nine consecutive years. He claims this is because he wants to be grateful to his teachers and Santhanam (Santhanam). Also, Arnold and Santhanam love Shalini. Shaliini doesn't take kindly to Sachein's smitten behaviour. Sachein is able to befriend Shalini through persistence. Shalini grows fond of Sachein. Santhanam, jealous of Sachein's relationship with Shalini, writes a graffiti on the school wall. The graffiti reads "Sachein loves Shalini". Shalini confronts Sachein, and demands an explanation. Sachein pleads his innocence, and Shalini believes him. However, Sachein tells Shalini that even though he didn't write the graffiti, he really does love Shalini. Shalini bashes Sachein, telling him that he does not know the true meaning of love, and tells him she does not love him. The next day, Sachein meets Shalini and tells her that she will fall for him. Shalini takes on Sachein's bet and gives him a total of one month to try and make her fall in love. Shalini though is a good friend of Sachein until Manju (Bipasha Basu) runs behind Sachein with skimpy costumes and makes Shalini go green with envy. Shalini's parents have arranged her wedding with an industrialist's son in Canada, yet Sachein pushes on. Days pass, and yet Sachein is not able to presuade Shalini. On the last day of their bet, Sachein decides to bid goodbye to Shalini and even apologies for running behind her so long. Shalini develops a soft corner for Sachein and decides to express her love to him until his dad (Raghuvaran) who is a multi millionaire comes to meet him. Shalini doesn't express her love because then he will think that she loves him only for the money. Sachein plans on leaving India, and goes to the airport. When Sachein was about to take the plane home Shalini expresses her love to him and they are united.

Nikhil Arora, (Saif Ali Khan) ou "Nik", c’est plus cool, architecte de formation, mais chef cuisinier par goût, tient un restaurant au cœur de Melbourne, Australie. Il s’ensuit de multiples disputes entre les deux protagonistes. Ils finissent cependant par tomber amoureux l’un de l’autre et décident de vivre ensemble. Après une période idyllique où chacun fait des efforts pour l’autre, le naturel de chacun refait surface et les tensions et disputes reprennent de plus belle.
