Lakshmipathi (Prabhu) is a carefree youth who searches a job. His hot sister Kasthuri (Sumithra) sends him a letter from the city to rejoin her and the villagers compel him to leave the village, he leaves the village to rejoin his sister. His brother-in-law (Goundamani) finds a job as watchman for him. There, Dhanalakshmi (Revathi), his sister's young daughter, and him fall in love with each other. Kasthuri decides to meet some astrologers and they say that if Lakshmipathi marries Dhanalakshmi, he will certainly die. Kasthuri evicts him from her house and Sivaraman (Janagaraj), who is also in love with Dhanalakshmi, accommodates him without knowing his identity. Kasthuri convinces her daughter to forget him and later, Dhanalakshmi criticizes Lakshmipathi that he was not a well-educated. Sivaraman promises Dhanalakshmi that he will get them together. Meanwhile, Lakshmipathi returns to his village. Dhanalakshmi sends a letter, mentioning that she will marry another man. The story begins with the fall of Mangalasherry Neelakantan's (Mohanlal) son Karthikeyan (Mohanlal), as he ventures out to make money which ultimately makes him a liquor baron. The relationship between Neelakantan and Karthikeyan deteriorates, as the father does not approve of his son's money-making methods. Mundakkal Shekharan (Napoleon) comes into the picture again after spending a term in prison for killing one of Neelakantan's friends. He decides to finish the Mangalasherry family by confiscating the house which was kept as collateral for Bhanumathi's (Revathy) treatment. Bhanumathi passes away and Karthikeyan is now bent on taking revenge. Neelakantan loses his home and Karthikeyan ventures out in an attempt to reclaim his ancestral home. In the meantime, Karthikeyan abducts Shekharan's daughter Janaki (Vasundhara Das) in an attempt to blackmail him (Shekharan), during which they fall in love with each other. The remainder of the movie is about how Karthikeyan manages to get his ancestral home back while Shekharan's nephew Mundakkal Rajendran (Vijayaraghavan) makes attempts to kill Karthikeyan, but instead neelakandan gets killed and karthikeyan ventures out to kill Mundackal shekharan.Réalisé par P. Thiruppaachi and Sengulam are neighboring villages with a history of enmity between them. Maayan (Manoj) and Machakanni (Riya Sen) meet on the day of her engagement and its love at first sight. Her marriage itself gets called off when the groom and his family insult Machakanni's family and her romance with Maayan continues. But when her brother finds out about him, all hell breaks loose. The turned-down bridegroom is still itching for revenge and figuring out that the only way to extract it is to marry Machakanni, he pleads for forgiveness and succeeds in melting her brother's heart. Au début du cinéma parlant, dans l'état du Pays Tamoul...
Anandan (Mohanlal), acteur débutant et Tamizhselvam (Prakash Raj), auteur prolifique, deviennent les meilleurs amis du monde. Si, le premier vise le succès au cinéma, au prix de milles efforts, le second espère gravir les marches de la politique, avec l'appui d'un bon réseau. Tous deux, très prometteurs, dans leurs catégories, veulent absolument briller, dans leur pays. C'est alors (au début des années 1950) que Tamizhselvam suggère à son ami, Anandan, de le rejoindre au sein d'un parti régionaliste qui monte et emmené par son charismatique leader, Ayya Vélouthambi (Nasser). En vieux briscard de la politique, Ayya Vélouthambi y voit d'un bon œil l'occasion d'utiliser la notoriété grandissante d'Anandan, pour la vitrine de son mouvement. Il demande dans ce sens, à Tamizhselvam, de rédiger des scénarios qui servent aussi bien Anandan que la cause de leur idéologie. À présent figure incontournable et indispensable de leur courant (au début des années 1960), la star de cinéma (Mohanlal) est dans les petits papiers du fondateur (Nasser), ce qui porte ombrage au stratège (Prakash Raj) et lui fait naitre une pointe de jalousie. Plusieurs années plus tard (en1969), devenu le parti majoritaire, Ayya Vélouthambi décède d'une longue maladie, en plein mandat, laissant le poste vacant, mais aussi, confusions et questions qui vont mettre à mal l'amitié des deux hommes, à rude épreuve aussi bien Anandan que Tamizhselvam. Leur clans et entourage respectifs profitent pour souffler sur les braises de la discorde entre eux, jusqu'à la rupture, au point de non-retour. C'est ainsi qu'Anandan et Tamizhselvam vont prendre chacun leur chemin et s'opposer au sommet avec férocité, pour le poste de ministre en chef de leur pays. Amis encore hier, ils sont aujourd'hui, les pires ennemis...
