Mannava is a 1997 Tamil language film directed by L. M. Balaji and produced by Shanthi. The film stars Prashanth and Sanghavi in the lead roles, while Deva composed the film's music.
Synopsis
Eshwar (Prashanth) is the son of Vishwanatham (R.Sundarajan) & (Vadivukarasi), who has a naturally helpful personality. He will come to the rescue of any one who is in difficulties. Eshwar’s friend is facing a problem in getting married to his fiancée. Eshwar helps his friend which leads to a skirmish brawl & also falls in love with his friend’s sister Sanghavi. When Eshwar’s love was accepted by both the parents they approach an astrologer J.V. Somayajalu who predicts Eshwar to be isolated for some time to avoid disaster in his life. Eshwar arrives with his friend Mani Gountamani to their estate in Coonoor - Ooty, where numerous incidents takes place. At one point of time a mentally retarded Oorvasi forcibly takes asylum in Eshwar’s estate. A local thug Ponnambalam tries to molest (Oorvasi) & Eshwar chases the goon Ponnambalam away. Later he was found dead. An inspector of police Devan, is deputed for investigating this case. Devan is a relative of Sanghavi & they were supposed to marry. The investigation leads to several proof & Eshwar is blamed for Ponnambalam’s murder.Acteurs

Kai Ezhuthu Gounder (Manivannan) and Kai Naattu Gounder (K. Prabakaran) are the village's bigwig and best friends. While their children Raja (Arun Vijay) and Indhu (Kirthika) hate each other, they are classmates and quarrel continually. In contrast, their fathers want to marry them. Sorna (Rajashree), a dancer, comes to their village to separate the thick friends. Finally, Raja and Kirthika fall in love with each other. Sorna seduces the thick friends and create a conflict between them. In the past, Kai Ezhuthu Gounder and Kai Naattu Gounder tries to rape Sorna's sister and before it she committed suicide. Since that day, Sorna wanted to take revenge. Raja and Indhu are distraught, Sorna only wanted to punish Kai Ezhuthu Gounder and Kai Naattu Gounder but not the young lovers, so she comes to their rescue. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.

Sathya (Prashanth) and Vasanth (Ajith Kumar) are very best friends ever since from their childhood. Manivannan is working under Sathya's mother and he wanted his daughter Pooja (Pooja Bhatt) to get married to Sathya so that he could be a wealthy man for the rest of his life. For this he makes many tricks and pranks to make them walk together alone, to go for a ride and many more. On Vasanth's birthday Sathya goes to wish him but he denies his wish and says birthday is no more meant to him. Simultaneously Sathya's mother decided his son to get married to Pooja and the engagement day arrives. With informing her, when she enters the house as all the other guests did, Manivannan insists her to wear the engagement saree. Knowing the situation she leaves the place crying and Sathya follows her. On middle of the street he shouts at her and asks the reason why she can't marry her. She immediately shows her wedding thread which she has hidden from all and cries that she was already married.

Chandru (Prashanth) – graduate, works in a Florist shop owned by Manivannan. Chandru visits his friend’s STD booth, where he see many girls waiting for their boy friend’s phone call. Since Chandru doesn't have a girlfriend he gets jealous. Chandru’s friend Gayathri (Sujitha) plans to introduce one of her friends as Chandru’s girl friend. Raja (Karthik) feels stifled under his strict father Col. Chandrasekhar (Jaiganesh) and when his father picks a girl he doesn't like for him to marry, it is the last straw and he runs away to Ooty. There he teams up with Vasu (Goundamani) and they come up with an ill-advised plan to kidnap Indu (Rambha), the daughter of Vishwanathan (Manivannan). Vishwanathan is in fact Col. Chandrasekhar's friend and it is Indu that Raja was supposed to marry. But Vishwanathan now mistakes Vasu to be his friend's son and takes him under his wing while Raja is hired to be his driver.

The film deals with the social stigma associated with a handicapped girl in a rural milieu. Murali is a potter by profession. He has a sister, who is born dumb. Murali has to struggle a lot as the handicraft industry is a dying industry and a good amount of money is taken away by his father (Manivannan), who is a drunkard and a gambler. But, he tries to hide his sorrows by having fun with his sister and servant (Vadivelu), who is also his trusted friend. He is in love with his neighbour (Meena), a weaver. He wants to get his sister married to a noble man. But many reject her as she is dumb. Finally, one man agrees to marry his sister but on condition that Murali must offer dowry. Murali then sells many things dearer to him to get money for the dowry. But, that money is taken away by his father and the marriage falls through. Yet Vadivelu offers to marry his sister without asking dowry and Murali goes home along with Vadivelu to convey this happy news to his sister. But it was too late as the sister commits suicide. Murali as a penance decides to marry a handicapped girl.
