The film revolves around a Kathakali artist, Vardanunni (Indrajith), who joins the underworld to take revenge on those who killed his family and destroyed his life.
Synopsis
Vardanunni is the son of famous Kathakali artist Ramankutty Ashan(master). Ashan's dream was to make his son also a famous Kathakali artist. But Varadanunni, having seen that his dad could not earn anything from his art, decides to go to Bangalore after he gets a job. His father insists that Varadan should come with them to Mumbai for a Kathakali performance but Varadan defies his father and goes to Bangalore to take up his new job.Acteurs

The plot revolves around the lives of few people around an ancient Syrian church in a Kuttanadan village called Kumarankari. Solomon (Fahadh Faasil) is in love with Shoshanna (Swathi Reddy) who is the daughter of a wealthy contractor. Solomon is the son of a band master who died after a show by drowning. Solomon is a failed band member. Here comes the entry of Fr. Vincent Vattoli (Indrajith) to the church. He learns about the relationship and tries to unite them. It was this time the marriage of Shoshanna gets fixed. Solomon attempts to elope with Shoshanna by taking the help of Fr. Vattoli but in vain. They are caught by their people and beaten up. The people then place a bet in which the Band is asked to win the band competition in which they lost in the previous years. It was said that Shoshanna would be married to Solomon if they win the competition with Solomon leading the band. The band takes intense practices and wins the bet. Solomon gets married to Shoshanna. The next day a call comes to the church informing that the new Priest Fr. Vincent Vattoli is taking charge. The Kumarangiri folks now come to know that Fr. Vincent Vattoli was actually the saint himself who appeared in front of them.

Laila and Majnu are two precious stones, which has value only if they are together. It is now possessed by Don, in Goa, who tries to sell it, in order not to lose it to his son, Gabbar, whom he despises. Don approaches two lowly thugs, Pancho and Vinci and offers it for a price of ₹10 crores. They agree and ask for a week's time to arrange the money. Billy, who is Gabbar's man, comes to know of this and offers Pancho and Vinci ₹100 crores to buy it. Pancho and Vinci gets ₹5 crores from Blacky, which actually belongs to the Tarkovs ( the Russian mob in Goa). For the remaining ₹5 crores, they plan to rob the black money of Podiyadis (a local hawala gang in Kerala). While the deal happens, things get mixed up and lead to a big gang war between all the groups.

The film starts in a street in Fort Kochi where Vasco da Gama (Mohanlal),the son of a wrestler named Michael (Saikumar), lives. The film starts by displaying an antic of Keshavan (Thilakan) who is an inmate of the Kakkanad Mental Hospital. Two other inmates are Benny (Mukesh) and Krishnankutty (Jagathy Sreekumar), along with the female inmate played by Philomena. The late Hakeem Rawther too plays as an inmate in a cameo role. By profession Benny is an artist, Krishnankutty is an auto-mechanic and Keshavan had retired from military service. How betraying a friend or an acquaintance can ruin one's life is poignantly depicted in the Malayalam film Thalappavu made by actor-turned-director Madhupal. The movie is based on a real-life confession of a police constable (P. Ramachandran Nair) about gunning down a Naxalite (Arikkad Varghese) in a fake encounter as per the order of his superiors in 1970. The screenplay by Babu Janardhanan uses the stream of consciousness flow to show the mental state of the constable who feels deranged after the incident. Lal plays constable Raveendran Pillai whose family life is ruined after the killing of Joseph (Prithviraj Sukumaran), a revolutionary leader fighting for the rights of the hapless farmers of Wayanad. Raveendran Pillai is a misfit in the police force as he is not courageous or cruel as the others of his ilk. He is a family man to the hilt and dotes on his children. He befriends Joseph on the way while on duty. Joseph introduces him to the revolutionary ideas. Raveendran Pillai takes instant liking for Joseph and roams in the forests with Joseph during his free time.

Following a tip from a small time lodge owner (Sadique), the ATS conducts a search at the rooms where a group of suspicious youths stayed. Baba Kalyani IPS (Mohanlal), the head of ATS M3 division finds certain vital clues, which he wants to follow after. Upon the permission from Bose Ninan (Venu Nagavally), the IG of police, Baba Kalyani takes arrives in Kochi. He is posted in Law & Order department as undercover with Godwin Joseph (Biju Menon) and a couple of ATS officers assisting him. All his men were newly inducted IPS officers. At Kochi, Kalyani clashes with advocate Ashokan (Murali) and Advocate Madhumitha (Mamta Mohandas), his daughter, who was his ex-girlfriend. A bundle of counterfeit currency is found at a local bank, which was transferred from the account of a charity organization run by Sait Isra Mohammed Haji(Saikumar), a respected businessman. Baba Kalyani reaches out the residence of Isra Mohammed at the same night, Isra denies any knowledge about any hawala dealings in the state. The cash was transferred from the account by Babur (Indrajith Sukumaran), Isra Mohammed's son-in-law, who is also a college lecturer. Babu is king-pin of a terror organization in the state. He along with a bunch of young men had secretly undergone Jihadi training in Pakistan and is planning a massive explosion. But unaware of this, Isra supports him thinking Babu is a normal college lecturer busy with his own life. One morning Isra arrives at Baba Kalyani's residence informing about a group of suspicious young men recently seen at the nearby mosque. He also adds that the Muslyar of the mosque has some doubts regarding their activities. Baba Kalyani, along with Godwin and their group conducts a raid at the house and gathers vital information. The house gets exploded, signing the storage of inflammable explosives. Baba Kalyani, from the prints, maps and photographs concludes that their next target is Palani, a divine pilgrimage center in South India. He arrives at Palani along with his team, where meets up Raghupathi (Siddique), the IG of Tamil Nadu police. With the support of local police, Baba seize the trucks in which the explosives were stored. Baba sends Isra Mohammed as a negotiator to Babu who was hiding along with a group of Jihadis. But unwilling to give up the plan,Babu decides to shoot down Isra. The ATS team conducts a commando operation and shoots down the jihadis aborting their plan.
